There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RT-622 Trailer Mods

We've had the :spyder2: and trailer for a few weeks now. I've had time to purchase and install a few mods on the :spyder2: but the trailer is still stock. When I had them hooked up this evening for a couple of photos before going riding, I noticed that the trailer seems to be lacking compared to the :spyder2:. I haven't seen lighting or other accessories for the trailer. How about it? There must be some modified trailers out there. I would like to see and hear about what others have come up with.

Be very careful about adding lighting to the trailer. For 2011 BRP reduced the trailer lighting, removing the separate turn signals. I suspect this may have had something to do with wanting to reduce the incidence of blown trailer modules on the RT. (Just speculating, mind you.) Adding lighting increases the load on the module, so it does involve some risk. I'd like to see some more, too, like an LED strip third brake light, but I am leery of adding anything beyond some tongue reflectors. I have also considered adding the separate turn signals back in, but I worry about the load there, too.

I have 72 led lights under the trailer, a brake light strip across the back and am working on turning the side marker lights into turn signals like my brightsides on the Spyder. Zero issues so far. Its all in the wiring, proper connectors and waterproofing the wires. Glowhips go on next, as soon as I get home and finish the mounting bracket.

That's reassuring. Thanks, Dave!

How about these for trailer tongue reflectors from JP Cycles

Single Filament LED Reflector
• 3-1/2″ long by 1-1/4″ wide
• Held in place with special double sided tape
• Has a single circuit which can be wired into the running light system or even the brake light system
• Great idea to replace stock reflectors
• High visibility lighted reflectors
• Can also be used on saddlebags
• Or any flat surface for supplemental marker lights

playing with trailer lights

I have been playing with the yellows on the 2010 trailer hooked up to RT-S. As you know, the turns on the trailer are the center red LED's as are the Brake lights.
I tried hooking up both yellows (on the left side)to the turn/brake wire(accessed the back of the light by removing the interior plastic and cut the wires a little). Wow! talk about being seen, it now flashes both yellows along with the reds for turn and also appling the brakes all of them light up. it for sure will be seen from behind. Now with the questions, will this damage anything in the circuits and is it legal to have some yellow with brake lights? Man it looks great in the turn signal mode along with the spyder yellows but I don't want to screw anything up or be illegal with a yellow and red brake light.

Laws regarding vehicle lighting vary state-by-state. In Michigan, the law allows either red or amber brake lights...but it does not mention both, so an officer might interpret that to prohibit the combination. At very least it is unusual. That alone would keep me from doing it...I would not want to confuse the drivers behind me. Using red bulbs or LEDs would be an option, though.

You would need the trailer to be wired with 5-wires to have separate amber turn signals, and you would have to rewire the brakes. Some, if not all the 2010 trailers are 6-wire. The 2011 trailers are 4-wire. The 4-wire version continues with four wires all the way to the trailer connector, where it hooks to the 7-wire Spyder connector. You would have to modify the connector and separate the brake and turn signal wires if you changed the wiring. The brake and turn wires are apparently hooked together in the connector, with diodes to prevent backfeeding. I have not visually verified this yet, but that is how the wiring rings out.

thanks for the info. I will play it safe and leave it as is.
