• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RSS to cheap mans ST.

Hi, I just bought a Neutron green RSS A few weeks ago and love it, already put 400 miles on it in 3 weeks. And am looking to improve the seating position.

Can I swap an RT seat onto my RSS? I See them on ebay and they are pretty affordable, I hear they'll bolt up with no problem?

Second question. Do the RT and RSS use the same handlebar controls? Are the cables going from the throttle and the shifter (SE5) the same length, because i was thinking of instead of a spacer, putting an RT handlebar/Center console onto my RSS to give me the raised bars. RT handlebars can also be had really cheaply as well.

What year? I have a 2012 RSS magnesium and black. I have the 25" windscreen with the side air deflectors, fog lights, Brp back rest, rear deck plate and use the heli-bar riser which brings the bars up and back 2" you could say I have made my own ST. Nothing cheap about it, I would prefer to say relatively inexpensive with the most bang for MY buck. From what I've seen the RSS and the RT are similar but are different platforms. The seats are not interchangeable. Look into an Ultimate, Corbin, or BRP comfy seat that works for your backside made for the RSS. Only your backside knows!

As far as the bars are concerned have you checked into a heli-bar riser or others? Good luck in your endeavor, and welcome to spyder hood

It's a 2012.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a 1" spacer for the handle bars tonight, the One BRP makes, the triangular shaped spacer thats in the accessory catalog, Should be here mid week, when i have my spyder 600 mile service done this month, I'll have them install it.

IT seems as if there were two spacer designs, one you need a puller to remove the old one, and the newer one is just a puck style?

I have heard of some putting 2x 1inch spacers in to lift the bars further, you just need longer bolts to hold them in.

You got the correct spacer. The older style replacement splined riser wouldn't work for you. They changed the design slightly in 2011 and updated the spacer with the block.

RT seat - Nope, won't work. Look at the side profiles of the seats and it will make sense. The RT seat is straight along the sides front to back. The RS seat has a notch/indent that goes around the grab handle.
RT handlbars - can be made to work and will bolt up, but your looking at swapping out not only the handlebars but the column going down to the dps. The RS bars are a 3 bolt setup and the RT is a 4 bolt.

If you really want an RT; sell your RSS & go get one!
You will only end up spending CUBIC dollars and wasting way too much riding time... :gaah:

:banghead: I've been on your side of this conversation too many times... :banghead: I've spent enough extra money getting bikes, ATVs, and snowmobiles to be what I wanted, that I could have bought at least three or four more of each along the way...
It is of course; your choice...
I would tackle the project in smaller, bite-sized pieces that aren't overwhelming! :2thumbs:

I had over $6K in accessories on my 2008 GS--still traded it for a 2010 RT when it came out. Enjoy your farkleing, it just goes with the :spyder2::thumbup::thumbup:

cheap mans ST

I took my stock seat and pictures of the ultimate , corbin and a few custom seats to my local custom upholsterer and $140 later have a very nice seat built for MY tail. rear pinion is not perfect but I don't sit back there. He said he could do additional work on it this winter to make it perfect as well. I also removed the stock bars and installed cruiser bars, up 4" back 4" rerouted some cables, loosened the wire ties and had a new clutch hose made ($40) much better ! Installed the largest CASCI windshield and custom fabbed a rear rack and tail trunk mount. no an ST but close enough for me
