There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RSS Oil consumption

I have a 2012 RSS which I just purchased and I hear that some normal oil consumption is common, which is why you should check the oil every 300 miles. What would be the normal amount you would expect if you drove 1000 miles

Thanks

Initially mine used up some oil. I found I used to have to top it up once or twice between oil changes. I change my oil every 5000km (3100 miles) just because of the sort of riding I do. So initially around 1000 - 1500 miles I'd top it up.

As I've racked up the miles the consumption has gone down and now I don't have to top it up at all between services. I would say it took around 25,000km (15500 miles) for that to happen.

I also don't fill my oil right to the top as I always careful about overfilling, I'd rather top it up more regularly.

Really depends on the type of riding you do. Mine does not use a lot of oil. ~ 1/2 a quart between oil changes.

I use about 1/2 qt between oil changes and the bike has about 13,000 miles on it. I typically check it a couple times between oil changes and add enough to read at the full mark on the stick.

Some now less later....

Many variables in the amount as you will see from the responses to your question. I find that it is best to carry a quart in the frunk for those long trips and check it just in from those long rydes. Remember the oil light has nothing to do with the oil level and everything to do with the oil pressure...there are signs to watch for depending on the sm5 or se5 but main one is the shifting...

Well I kind of agree with this Gene, but when the oil gets low enough the oil pressure light will come on. No Oil==No Pressure. If you wait till the Oil Pressure light comes on stop immediately and don't ride until reason is checked out. Low oil, oil pump etc.

Thanks for all your help

I did 1000 miles at an average of 70 mph and when I checked I needed 1/2 quart to fill it back up mind you the bike even though 2012 only had 1000 miles on it so just like new. Runs great.

Thanks for all your help

I find the use to be about half a quart between oil changes. Our interval is around 4,000 miles.

 Glad to hear that you're diggin' the ryde! :2thumbs:
Once you get the "check the oil" routine figured-out: the rest is easy!
