There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. rs to rt and pricing

hey guys i currently have a 2012 rs and i was looking at a used 2010 rt with 2400 miles it has a manual transmission. the guy wants $12000. im 28 years old and i think that i would like the rt better than my current rs. anybody my age do this switch and like it. does this sound like a good price for this bike? is there anything i should look for that goes bad on this year and model? thanks.

I wish I were that young... I went from a 2009 RS to a 2010 RT, and loved the RT. Your quoted price is terrific! Be sure there's not a lurking problem on that bike - a quick check by a dealer should give you some piece of mind.

I am 55 and have a 2012 RT SM5. 12K is a very good price but do have it checked out. I paid 15K for mine with 4100 miles and that was a pretty good price. I know that I can really ride my Spyder hard when it is just me, and it rides nice and smooth when my wife is riding with me. Great bike.

I had a 2010 RTS SM5 and it was a great Spyder. Just be sure that all of the updates and recalls have been taken care of. The biggest one on that year was the DPS recall. A dealer should be able to look up the VIN for you.

2010 RTs...
But...
Be aware of the potential for throttle body issues. This was the first year of the 991 series engine, with it's throttle by wire setup.
You might also want to take a look at the center strut on the windshield. To this day; they remain prone to cracking, and ultimate failure.
I'd also check out the front suspension. A whole lot of 2010 RTs had their VERY soft front ends stiffened-up with different shocks and Anti-SwayBars...

Go in with both eyes open, and they are GREAT rides! nojoke

would the dealer do the updates and recall for me if they were not done? is there any charge associated with this? i bought my 2012 from the local dealer, so they do know me.

You might consider having an oil change done, just because. A good dealer should verify all the updates at that time, and those should be free.

The switch from RS to RT is a whole different ride. It is like going from a crotch rocket to a touring machine.

I traded my 2008 GS on a premier edition RT when they first came out. Did 36,500 miles on it before trading on the 2014 triple--also another good move.

No major problems on my 2010. The advice given above is right on. Have dealer check the vin for a service history. Make sure DPS was fixed. Also seems a good price. I got almost $15K for mine when I traded it in last year.

Let us know what you finally decide to do.

will do. what do you all think i can get out of my 2012 rs sm5 with about 2500 miles. it still has over 2 years of warranty left on it.

also the guy that is selling it said that he did all services himself. the only thing done from the dealer was a repair to the shocks. the guy said when he went over bumps, it would bottom out.

Since the previous owner did all the service themselves, I would have the dealer do a once over to make sure there are no problems lurking. That could be the best money you spend prior to making the purchase. I would recommend checking KBB for pricing of :spyder2: RS sm5 in your area.

good price

i went from a Honda 750 which wifey would never ride with me, to a used 2012 RT Limited and she love it as much as i do. Yeah that price aint bad at all, just do what everyone else is saying bout having your dealer check it out. It should be a good buy. Mine been good thus fur without any issues.

Beware...

My husband had 2010 RT with the manual transmission. Loved the bike...when it was running. We got rid it after we went with our fourth throttlebody....in six months. Traded to 2012 RT which was pretty good for two years then traded up the 2014 RT and so far so good.

Like the rest have said...I wouldn't buy it unless a dealer did a good check as there won't be a warranty to pay for the problems and as we all know, these bike repairs are never cheap.

Good Luck and enjoy the ride.

did you have any throttle body problems with your 2010? did the software updates fix the throttle body problems? what are signs of the throttle body going bad? the guy that has the bike lives on a hill that is still snow covered, so i would not be able to take it to a dealer at this time. also if there were any fault codes the that are not currently showing, can i see them without taking it to a dealer? i am very interested in this bike, but the stories of the throttle body going bad is the only hold up. i doubt that the bike still has a warranty, what would a replacement throttle body cost? thanks.

You can pull any ACTVE codes through the following procedure:
With the key on, lay your thumb across both, the "MOde", and "Set" buttons.
Holding them down, push in the turnsignal button. (As if cancelling a signal)

Any active codes will show up on the main screen.
Hit "Mode" again, and you're back to normal.

I'm about to trade my RS-S 2012 for a 2014 RT base at the dealer. Your local can am dealer may be able to work you a good deal on a trade on something newer.
