• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RS relays vs RT relays

Ride Forrest Ride!
Are these relays the Same.. RT and RS ?
If not then what/where can one get the RT relays as backup?
Have you got the RT Relay numbers?

thanks

There are two relays for the RT. Both are Song Chuan sealed relays. The larger SPDT one is the Song Chuan 301-1C-C-R1 U01 12VDC. It is rated at 35 amps NO and 20 amps NC. This cross references in one list to the Tyco VJ28-95F24-S01 that is in the RS, but I have not checked it for compatibility as far as size and contact/pin layout. I have not found an automotive cross reference. The smaller SPST relays are the Song Chuan 303-1AH-C-R1 12VDC. It is rated 20 amps for electronic applications and 16 amps for lamp or motor switching. These don't show up in any cross reference I could find from any source. They are listed in the Song Chuan catalog but are not indexed. They appear to be a special application relay. BTW, these have no pin arrangement that prevents them being put in upside-down, but they are wired in such a way that it does not matter which end is up.

If anybody finds an automotive cross reference and source for either, please verify that it fits, then post it here.

checked at dealer and they said its about $9 for a replacement relay. dont think i will buy a spare one but will probably buy a few spare fuses just incase... not sure if there are spares of each fuse type in the current fuse boxes.

$9 sounds really cheap I'd buy 100 and sell them for $15. I've bought 4 so far and paid from $15 to $19 each.

oops he was just guessing on price I guess he was too low. but still buying a spare one for just in case for $15 to $19 seems like money spent for a rare case that it would go bad. fuses should be cheap and worth to carry spares.

Scotty,

I have a GS and last year I purchased Song Chuan relays as back-ups. You are correct in that they can be placed upside down. But, the Song Chuan relays that I purchased placed my spyder in limp mode when I inadvertently placed them upside down. The actual (male) terminals for the coil and the contact/contacts were not located in the correct (female) slots when installed. Now, that being said, the Song Chuan relays for the RT may be different.

This post is actually for RS/GS owners who view RT posts and may purchase Song Chuan replacement relays. Those who have RT's, I'm sure Scotty is correct.

Don't be to sure. If it put your Spyder into limp mode, it may do so with all of them...or it could have just been a bad relay. This only applies to the small, single-pole RT relays, BTW. I was going by two things. First, the diagram of the relay shows the coil and contacts cross connected (X-pattern), so flipping one over does not change the function. Second, on my RTS, about half were in one direction, and half in the other...from the factory. Bottom line is that if you install one of these relays and it puts your Spyder into limp mode...turn it over!
