• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RS rear sping question...

I was wondering if anyone knows if the RS spring in the rear for 2011 is different than other model years?

We are not to happy with ours at this time and have adjusted it so many times I can do it in my sleep. But we believe the rear end is bottoming out. When we hit a bump of any size it is not a welcomed experience :cus: especially for the passenger.

Below is a pic of Yazz's with a clear shot of her spring and mine below. I wonder if the spring on mine is newer/same and or simply is not for us and we need to get an Elka... :dontknow:

The BRP parts fiche shows different part numbers for both the spring and shock for the 2011, than the 2010 RS. It shows no difference for the RSS, compared to the plain RS, either year. Don't know what the differences are. I'd bring the problem to the dealer's attention, withought mentioning the parts change. The suspension should not bottom out with a rider/luggage load within specified limits.

Thanks Scotty... We think we have the front dialed in (Think).

Best way to explain it... We "Hear" a bottoming out sound but no where can we "See" any evidence to this. Originally I thought it was only the Dula Exhaust hitting the road, but it did it again yesterday with the new Hindle installed and the Hindle has no scratches to show for it being the item making contact.

We "Feel" the bottoming out every single time on the road to our home, two up, turning from the right lane, left up onto the street that is a steep uphill climb.

We "Feel" every single pot hole, clump of concrete that falls out of the trucks and drys on the street, and any other obstruction.

We tried to lower the spring rate by setting it to #3 and #4 only to bottom out a LOT... The tried #7 & #8 and it tries to buck the passenger off the bike. It took the wind out of me once (Very short period but it helps you understand the amount of impact that is transferring to the passenger).

Right now it sits @ #6...

What we are wondering is if our type of ryding is compressing the spring to the point of complete collapse. Not allowing for any more travel room. Hope that makes since...

It may just be the angle of the pictures, but it sure looks like Yazz's have fewer, beefier, coils on the spring, while yours has more coils. :dontknow:

If memory serves the maximum load is 440 lbs..... if you're breaching that amount then a different shock setup my be needed.

You could also just buy the wife her own Spyder..... ;-)

Yepper... We hope late this year or next spring  Plan is an RT...

Max load is 440 :opps:... Well I am 235 and she is 115 plus our gear. So I bet we are simply at the limits of this particular shock/spring combo in the rear.

Our shop got our Spyder done about four days before I was expecting it (Man those folks are amazing!) so I was able to ryde one up with a spirited intent this afternoon. My wife said the rear looked to be leaving the ground an awful lot. :dontknow:

Tech said everything is in spec and responding correctly. So I think we are simply at the limits of this particular setup. That is fine with me... I really like Elka and it just makes that purchase easier to show value sooner rather than later.

Thank you all for your input!:chat:
