• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sometimes function must trump looks---- I've got a stable of shields and none are perfect--- I agree some big ones are hideous--- others not so bad.

Can you undo 4 screws? Switch 'em around, tall one for bad weather, shortee when you want to make a fashion statement. And I like the look of my 23" BRP shield, so I vote "jerk"!

1. I bought my Spyder for touring. A short shield might be good for bombing around town and local back roads, but for 3000 mile trips, a tall shield serves many purposes for me. Show me a touring bike that doesn't have a tall shield.

2. RT wasn't out when I bough my GS.

3. I don't like the RT.

Form over function or function over form?
That's why f1 slider was the one for me despite of Marcel...

Yes I want wind in my face but not ALL the wind, especially since I don't wear full face helmet.
I swung by calsci today to have my f1 slider trimmed and was trying to convince mark the owner to come up with something like slider but I don't think he is sold on idea yet. He was familiar with marcel's work and his business practices as well as other windshield makers.

Wouldn't more people buy sliding windshield of a some sort if it was made by reputable company? I told him, till you come up with something, I will be behind this acrylic shrapnel waiting to happen if anything hits my windshield...

This is a great discussion. The funny part is the two people who voted, I agree - but still a jerk. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Thank you so much for letting me post this. See, we can have opinions and still get along.

Alot of people are commenting on the bugs. I agree with you about getting plastered. I carry wipes in the frunk to clean my sheild on my helmet, near the fender tip lights and headlights. But I would be cleaning a tall windshield as well so, that excuse doesn't work for me. :chat:

Good point there as well. I would likely go for an adjustable shield that was sporty when the top shell was lowered and then could be raised up again. But, of course, having only a few people interested in it will not make a business thrive either.

Truth be told, who cares what you think...it's your opinion and belongs to you. A survey for this? That's far worse than any shield on a RS! :D

Honestly, I was not trying to cause trouble posting this. I knew before posting this some would blast me for it. And I am ok with that. I only offered a survey because far to often on this forum people will only comment on a matter, only if they tend to agree with the majority for fear of comments just like what you wrote. But I have broad shoulders and can take it without getting upset with you. Judging from the results thus far, I'm in the minority with my opinion and thats ok. Maybe that has to do with the demographics of the current Spyder owners, I don't know for sure. :dontknow:

I hope you were joking with your comment. My opinion matters as well as anyones does. Opinions are the foundation of this, and any forum. If you could not give your opinion on a topic, Spyderlovers would not be a forum. It would be a article. :D

So my guess is, you must have a high windshield ?? :roflblack::roflblack::joke:

I keep my BRP 25" windshield on all the time for a few reasons
buffeting the ride is not enjoyable when riding around like a bobblehead.
i never no when i will be on the highway where it really helps
in the hot days of summer i wear a half helmet so the shield gives bugs a final resting place.
my daughter likes that stock batwing thing for whatever it does then gets mad when her fullface gets full of highway snacks.

:D It's my spyder and I can do with what I want!!!! To H..L with what someone else thinks!!!!!!!

I have to say I love the short look, but I'm still torn on how much I want a taller one. Bugs, wind noise...

I want my cake and I want to eat it too!

Take the stock shield and put it on a madstad ;) No idea what that'll do to the looks OR the wind ;)

It is a big trade off between form and function. We put the ultra touring shield n the RSS and my Wife loves it. It's ugly as :cus: but it really does make the ride much more comfortable. As such she will not let me touch it! And I don't blame her. From a comfort standpoint, the RSS is one sweet ride.

On 14 I just put my Bat wing shield back on. That from a sport tour shield. I thought the sport tour would protect me a little but really all it did was route the wind right at my helmet! So off it came. And even though my body is getting beat pretty bad by the outrageous winds we are getting around here, the bat wing will stay. We'll see how I feel in a couple of weeks after 100 miles a day of it. But I just can't stand the look of a tall shield on her. Aint gonna do it! I'll get used to it. And if I want to explore triple digits, I just tuck in a bit and it's all good.

But this is just me and what I do with my machines. The fact that the RSS is a much more comfortable riding machine with the tall shield, is not in dispute. In fact it's kind of nice to have both.

This was fun... you jerk!! :roflblack: :roflblack: Sorry Arntu, I had to do it! :roflblack:

I never thought twice about how some guy in May of 2011 would say that I was letting him down by having a taller windshield that was a turn off to the younger guys.

Poor Some Guy

. His name always comes up and he's done nothing wrong.

I agree, don't like tall windshields. That being said I would have one if I traveled on the highway a lot. Most of my riding is on two lanes and the stock one works for me.

In the photo below, Larry's windshield looks good for a taller windshield. I'm not sure which one it is though.

:roflblack:No problem, I'm having fun with this as well. I'm glad to help when and where I can !!!:roflblack:
Some took it well, some didn't.
The old saying is...... Say what you mean, and mean what you say !!!

I have been pondering this in my head for quite sometime and have been very reluctant in posting my thoughts, in lue of the blacklash that I will receive from some. I am only posting my opinion and please know I'm no means am a expert, just a guy with a keyboard. I know opinions will differ between us all. I'm not trying to start trouble, just a simple observation opinion.

But... After seeing many pictures of Spyders on this forum and in person, it really turns me off when I see a RS with a windshield higher than the stock one. IMO it makes the Spyder ugly when this is done. The rest of the Spyder looks great with all sorts of mods and paint schemes. But when my eyes hit the high windshield portion of the Spyder it is a big turn off for me. The RS model does not look good to me with a high windshield. I'm counting on you to draw the younger generation to the sporty look of the RS and you are not doing the RS any justice with a high windsheild. If you need a high one for some unknown reason please buy the RT. That one looks good with one. I have the ultrasport shield and I see no good reason for a high windshield that a good full face helmet would not cure. OK, you can beat me up now.

I know some will not comment on this blunt opinion topic, so I'm offering a poll for your opinion. Please vote on this.

fellow spyder owners with high windshields: Afix bayonets and ready the assault!!:roflblack:
