My Rpm @ idle is 1350 - 1400, I will ask the dealership next weeK if this is normal.
2009 SE5 does the very same thing bangs, chunks into first. Hope this is normal.:dontknow:
Its normal, but does anyone know (for sure, not guessing) why BRP set it that high, and, has anyone been able to lower it and see what goes "wrong" if anything?
Each bike that I've had... and I mean all 27-28 bikes (American, Japanese, European) ... "banged" into first gear from neutral with the engine running.
For SM5s: Option... when driving, downshift into first before you stop... leave in first with the clutch in... at stop signs and lights... so you can "escape" if needed.
For SM5s: If just starting out from parking, start in first gear with clutch in.
Other than that, keep on "banging".

:agree: If you really want a comparison, listen to my BMW. They are notorious for it, and Mine is louder than Nancy's Spyder. Each bike that I've had... and I mean all 27-28 bikes (American, Japanese, European) ... "banged" into first gear from neutral with the engine running.
its normal, helps build oil pressure with dry sump engine especially for SE5,:agree: If you really want a comparison, listen to my BMW. They are notorious for it, and Mine is louder than Nancy's Spyder.

Yep, nothing like an airhead for encouraging you to learn motorcycle mechanics. They also teach you to ignore the clunks, whistles, and whines until they change in intensity or pitch. All my Beemers, from the 1961 to the 2000 are noisy going into first gear. The way the "R" bikes smoke until they warm up is another strange habit. They all do it from time to time. For Scotty - Know what you mean re BMW "banging" into first gear. I had a 1966 R69S that really clunked! Great bike, though. Taught me a lot about motorcycle mechanics. I even learned how to adjust twin leading shoe brakes!
