There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RPM below 55 mph?

While coming back from Daytona a few days ago, I noticed my Spyder had much more acceleration than before. I jumped out around a truck and had no problem scooting by and back into my lane. Then I looked down and noticed at 70 I was still in 4th. I realized then how much the Rotax twins like to be kept up into the rpm/power band. Since then I havent been shifting out of 3rd till 60 mph and the Spyder motor seems to like it much more than when I was babying it.

generally, when putting around town in traffic (speeds 35-50), I try to keep the revs up around 4K, if they drop below 3500, downshift.

No matter what speed I'm riding at, with this machine I keep my RPMs at 5000 most of the time when I'm at "steady throttle". But when I'm exceling, I sometimes go as high as 7 or 8K. I don't really redline the thing but HDX does and from what I hear, this motor doesnt' seem to mind that.

What is the consensus for what my RPMs should be when not traveling at high speed?

Okay...thanks everyone. I think my poor mileage was my fault for running at too low an RPM. Lately I have been running higher (4K to 5K) but haven't had a chance to do a fuel consumption check yet.

Ok guys keep in my mind I'm new to riding and Spyders. I must be totally babying mine. I usually do 1-10mph in 1st, 10-25mph or so in 2nd, 25-40mph in 3rd, 40-50mph in 4th, and 5th is for everything up. Am I doin' the shiftin' totally wrong??? Thanks for any help!

From the results of a previous post, the consensus is that there is no consensus.

I concur, like everyone else did.

(though, depending on conditions, just driving around on city streets, I start thinking about upshifting around 4 to 4.5 K RPMs - if I think I am going to need more speed.)

I could do that on my Harley and my old Honda but I wouldn't do it on this machine

:agree: That is how I tend to ride as well. Keeps the Spyder in the power band, and the Rotax does like to rev.

You're not alone. Guess I was trying to shift like I did when I was riding the Suzuki. I've only had the bike about 10 days, guess I need to pay more attention to how the spyder sounds when i'm riding. Thanks for the info!
