• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Route 66 Trip ( of a lifetime ) update

Tom in NM

Well, the guys, TrickyDick and Irish2themax pulled into Edgewood New Mexico this morning. Gene had to go back, so I missed meeting him.

We rode, ate, rode, toured, rode some more and the guys are in Grants, NM tonight. It seems Gene must have touched Irish's computer and he has been unable to post any progress reports - so for now this will have to do.

It was great meeting them and it was a great day for riding - though, the top of the mountain ride got a bit cold ( there was snow up there ) and the fast ride up to 11,000 feet left us all a little woozy.

Lunch was great and then it was onto the Acoma Pueblo, which was started ( and has been lived in ever since ) the 800s. 1,200 years of history there - talk about feeling like an illegitimate alien.

The guys are doing fine, having a good time and the Spyders were running well (though Irish's really-really-really likes gas).

I did learn, never tell Irish, "OK, you lead the way." Nobody warned me. I know better now. :D

Sorry for the late post, but I just got back home from the ride. Still smiling.

I missed something somewhere, why did Gene have to go back? Is he sick? I didn't see a post on this and it isn't in their blog that I can see. Please fill me in if you know anything.

Yea I was starting to get concerned since they have not posted since Monday evening. What about Jane did she go back also.

Yah what's going on here? I'm a bit confussed as well---The whole Gene going back statement and no discussion about Jane---- I know when we meet up with them on Monday Jane's plan was to depart the group somewhere in the New Mexico area but then again she had talked about riding the complete route,,,,, Wondering in Waynesville?? We need INFO...

Yes, it is . . . . . .

. . . . an Adventure.

All the questions above are the same ones I asked when I met them in Edgewood. I don't have much info, besides what I wrote above or have outlined below.

Jane decided to go back when they hit lots of bad weather in the Texas Panhandle ( high winds, tornado warnings, hail ). They already had the storms in MO and elsewhere in OK - so, enough was enough - as I understand it.

As I wrote above, Gene was not feeling well and felt it best he stay a day or so at the place they had stopped, and then go back. I am sure as soon as he finds his box of crayons, he will be posting. When they asked me to sign the banner, they realized Gene had it.

The guys were ( probably still are ) frustrated with the inability of posting to the site, but they are taking lots of pictures and writing up all their experiences - as soon as the problems are solved, they will be posted. (last night, neither of the computers would keep connection with the wireless host at the motel) I think they also had a trip to Radio Shack planned this AM to get some parts they needed.

Again, as soon as they get things fixed, they will be posting.

OK, that clears up some questions.. Thank you much for telling us everything you know... I hope that all is well with Jane, Gene on there travels home and equally important to Irish and Dick.. Safe travel's folks and give us an update when you can..

I'm trying to get a hold of Gene but just getting voice mail. Hope all is well, kinda sounds like a rough time. I know they were sure looking forward to this big adventure.

Yup, I tried to call and left a voice mail as well. I have the whole crew in my prayers.

Had problems with getting my lousy computer to connect to some motel WiFis so was unable to post until tonight. Now having trouble with Photobucket....grrrr

Unfortunately, Jane (who was only joining us for 3 days) turned back a day earlier than originally planned due to anticipated bad weather which never materialized.

The next day, we lost Gene damn it!! He was having troubles as you know from his post. Just not the same without him

Tonight Dick indicated he may bail after tomorrow. The trip is taking its toll on him and he's exhausted. He thinks he may head north to Denver to visit his son and then return home.

So, looks like I may be the only one of the Tres Amigos y Uno Senora to continue on.

Lamont, Gene has the banner

Man I hate to hear that Irish, if this happens be sure to be careful and take care of yourself,, if you are in no hurry to get back you may want to take a couple extra days of R and R in order to regenerate some brother.. I hate to hear all that.. Just take care of yourself..
