• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rookie mistake...

Beautiful day, almost 60 in Indianapolis got in my car for some errands. And, it occurred to me, "why am I not riding?" Turned around, changed my clothes to riding gear, got my helmet, keys, pulled out the ramp on my trailer, took off the half cover on my 2013 RT Ltd., unplugged the tender, put my key in the ignition, hit the kill switch to ON, hit the starter button AND NOTHING absolutely NOTHING. Removed key, inserted key, checked to see if kill switch was ON, hit the Starter and NOTHING. Riding boots, on riding jacket on, gloves on and the dang thing won't start. New battery last fall, green light on tender. Then it occurred to me... and it started right up!

Is there a good reason for having to hit the mode button? The computer has to boot up every time? Why is the spyder the only vehicle that has this?

Why worry about the "why"? :dontknow:

MIS-TAKE

:lecturef_smilie:.......I think He was telling us..............It started but He didn't realize it because it's so quiet ???????:yes:..............Mike :bbq::bbq:

Not to worry....

This is far from a rookie mistake..it happens to the best of us.:lecturef_smilie: we all get those lapses of memory followed by that moment of panic....:roflblack: but most :ohyea:without mentioning it to anyone..:roflblack::roflblack: brave you are....

Yep

Went to fire mine up the other day. ..all ready to go, hit starter and nothing!!! Keep wondering how the battery was that low when the mode button message was scrolling across the screen. ..duh.........

steps

Yep it will happen. I have to keep saying, why go through all this? The Honda Shadow i had before (2 steps), i had to reach down just under gas tank and turn the key, raise up hit the start button i don't miss that. The Spyder, has (3 steps) turn key, hit mode button, then hit start button. I keep reminding myself the Honda is a motorcycle and the Spyder is classified as a roadster. Just one extra step and i still like the Spyder more, way more.:ohyea::ohyea::ohyea:Happy Riding and be safe!!

My newbie mistake was when I was at a stoplight. All of a sudden the Spyder stops running. Immediately, I panic. What is wrong?! I start fumbling around, wondering if I will need to call AAA for help when it finally dawns on me. I had accidently hit the kill switch. Flipped the switch, restarted and I was off before the car behind me had a chance to honk at me.

My "A-Ha" moment came when I had my '11 RT SE5 and left it in gear. Did everything I could think of. Finally, I asked a buddy who had driven his truck to the restaurant for a jump, thinking it was the battery. Then it dawned on me when I looked down at the dash, and a "1" was showing..... "Step on the brake, you dummy!!"  Fired right up......

Simple reason. You have to hit the mode button as proof that you read the pull-out safety card before starting the bike. :duh:

um, unless he is severely hearing impaired i doubt that one Mike :) im going with the Mode button too.

None that i can see, i wonder how many people have asked that question or why they have not gotten rid of it. Do you have to have it in neutral to start an SE? i have an SM so always just throw in the clutch like i would do on my 2 wheeler.

I had my spyder covered with a full cover, I went to start it, it would not start, the kill switch was hit by mistake.

When I put the cover over the handles bars I hit the "kill switch by mistake". The next time I went to start my spyder, my spyder started up. I also leave it "Neutral" for easy starting.

Been their done that.
