• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I see that spyderpops makes an aftermarket splash and rock guard. I would like to fabricate my own from diamond plate, and then paint to match bike possibly. I was wondering how much clearance should there be we tweet edge of guard and edge of tire tread for optimum blocking of debris without obviously interfering with any tire movement or rotation?
The template should be easy enough to do with that measurement, then trace on diamond plate, cut, smooth, paint, viola!

Pit gets mounted on the hitch to prevent rear wheel rooster tail spray, and also to keep stones and debris from being flung off of rear wheel and hitting trailer.

THIS ISSUE

Brent, unless you plan on " MUD BOGGING " :roflblack: imho the diamond plate is over-kill. I made something similar using 30 ga ( maybe less than ) aluminum with no breakage issues.......I also made two, one that attaches to the inside of the fender ( w/pop rivets ) and the other attaches to the Hitch.....they over-lap with the fender one on the inside. This works much better than the single one I previously had.......Mike :thumbup:

No doubt diamond plate is overkill. :shocked: I 'm actually going to use the aluminum diamond plate, strictly for the look. I'm planning to paint black and it should hopefully blend right in. Still deciding on using a couple of self tapping screws or double sided adhesive tape to fasten.

One of my concerns would be the constant racket from debris hitting the tin like diamond plate.

I had been trying to find a fender that was the right width with little success. I copied Lamont. He had made one for his RT a while back. He pointed me to Northern Tool. It was about $20. I only needed half of it. It is a work in progress. My idea is to get it airbrushed to look like a tire.

You make good point Joe. I have actually made the first go round from a hard plastic, with diamond plate pattern. I found some material at Lowes that will work and was the same black color as hitch. Made my pattern and cut one out. I'll be fastening it tomorrow, I'll post a few pics.

Unfortunately that project has taken a backseat to others. In the middle of a whole house remodel and picked up an F3 which I have been adding lighting and other goodies to at the moment. If you look up some of Lamont's earlier posts you can see the fender. I think I cut about 12" or 13" inches from the northern Tool fender. That leaves you with one rounded end and one flat cut end. I am going to put the round cut end up and the flat edge down. I am planning on attaching the fringie(???) material UPS uses around their trailer wheel wells down close to the road to further reduce spray on my trailer. The fender will attach to the the hitch mount with angle brackets. Additionally I will be using screws with rubber spacers for isolation and a little extra flex.

With $6. worth of black .06 KYDEX 8x12" sheets and a 250 degree oven, I was able to fabricate 2 mud flaps for my RT and wife's ST in about an hour. They work great and don't look too shabby either.

Has anyone tried adapting the "Broom bristles" from this type of flap, to the bottom of one for the Spyder hitch? :dontknow:
It might just keep more road grime off of your trailer, and you could set it as low as you want! :thumbup:

I have a spyderflap on my 2015. I also have a home fabricated flag holder for full size flags that has a bolt that come up from the bottom. I use this bolt to hold a piece of Tractor Trailer mud flag that I have fabricated to fill the spot where stuff was still flying out.

Rock guard

I used 3/32 aluminum diamond plate for a rock guard. I cut out a cardboard pattern to clear the tire. Seems to work just fine. Hard so see in the pictures.
