• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

When I bought my Spyder the P.O. said it had 2" risers on it. How can I tell if it does? And after riding it for a couple of months I think I would like to get the bars higher for more comfort. Can I just add more or do I have to buy 4"? And does anyone have an idea of the cost? No way I can do the cut the bars myself mod. I guess there is a different riser mod also. Thanks for any and all wisdom you can share with me.

you could add two inch dogbone risers, for about 30 bucks, but you would still have to cut your bars. it isn't hard at all. a simple hacksaw would do it. four inches total is about as tall as you can go.

Yes there's enough cable length, If you cut ''ALL'' the zip ties that hold the cables against the frame some are pretty well hidden.:thumbup:

There will be a significant space between the handlebars and the dash. Big enough in fact that you can look in there and see the riser. On my RS there is a 2 and 1/2 inch gap between the dash and the lip of the handlebar assy with two inch riser installed. There is a BRP one inch riser and would guess that the gap would be closer to 1 and 1/2 inches with that installed..

I believe that a 2 inch riser uses up all of the slack in the cables. To extend the handlebars further back one would have to take the riser out or buy some cable extensions from the vendor that sells the handlebar extenders.

On the GS/RS, with the steering centered, the distance from the "point" at the back of the handlebar cover to the top of the cowl (the y shaped body panel) is around 1 1/2 inches, stock. A 1 inch riser will give you 2 1/2 inches, and so on. There's enough slack to do a 4 inch dogbone riser, if it's the only riser used.

I beg to differ on the Riser thing Retread and Recluze, there is enough cable/wire slack to safely do 5 inch risers maybe even..6 inches......Been there done that.......Mike
 
OK guys just where would I have to cut the bar? It has grips then clusters then black bands then grey bars. So don't understand how to cut and where to cut? Is there no site that explains it in detail??
 
ESI Risers

I have an '08 RS that came stock with no risers. I bought the 4 inch risers from ESI (one of the site sponsors)and installed them with very little trouble. It was scary cutting off the handlebars, but it's the best mod I've done on my Spyder. Much more comfortable to ride! They also sell a 3 inch riser for Spyders that may already have a 1 inch. Cost is about $250 and they have really good instructions with them. As for the cables, mine were long enough but they were definitely stretched to the limit. Having said that, I don't recall cutting any ties (this was 3 years ago), so I may have been able to get more cable length if I needed it. Based on some of the comments above, I suspect there's a slight difference from bike to bike depending on how each bike had the ties placed. You can always call ESI if you have any questions. I'm confused Ihave the 21/2" gap in front which Recluse said was a 2" riser but in the back at the Y panel it measures 11/2 as was said to be stock. I can look under it but don't know what the riser looks like if I have one. Guess you can tell its all new to me.
 
There is a rubber boot/dust shield right under the handle bars. Coming out of this will be a black piece of cast metal that moves the handlebars back and up by making the steering column either one inch or two inch longer. I believe that the one inch riser is more common. Mine looks like it is two inches long so I call it a two inch riser. I have an extra two inch riser and they look identical. I have never put one of these on and it looks like it would be a project. The spacing from the lip of my handlebar assembly to the dash is about 2 and one half inches. If the riser were not in there I believe it would be about one half inch.

There are aftermarket risers that attach on the end of the handle bars. I have installed a version of these on a previous Spyder and it is not that hard to install. The model I had required the cutting of the handle bars which was easy. They move the Hand Grips up and back, not the entire handlebar. They are obvious in appearance since they are on the end of the handle bars. Some look like dog bones made out of a chunk of aluminum. Some don't.

There is some slack in the cables. When I put on the aftermarket risers I had the cables pretty tight after cutting tie wraps. If you add enough risers or combination of risers I expect you will run out of slack. Someone on here was supplying cable extension kits. Having cables that are tight would not be something I would want.

A lot of people do not think that the BRP risers do much good. The aftermarket ones do give you more adjustability. My two inch BRP suits me fine. I bought another two inch riser before I realized the used bike I had bought already had one installed.

We have the 4" risers and we angled them back about 25 degrees. Cables are extremely tight and rubbing alittle too much for my liking. The clutch level is also too high. May have to go another direction. :(
