• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ring doorbells & cameras

Anyone out there run them, and if you do do they perform reliably ? Thanks

Can't help with that ..... however IMHO these things have been advertised to death ..... They don't make any commercials that show the large amount of thieves that will cover their faces until they get close to the camera and put a pice of DUCT tape over it ..... Of course lots of those people are just plain stupid ..... so good luck .... Mike

I have a Ring doorbell and two battery wall mounted cameras. One of the camera batteries would not accept a charge, and Ring replaced it with a remanufactured newer unit free of charge. On the other one, the battery charge lasts only a couple of months. I bought a Ring solar panel for the unit facing west, and this one keeps the battery charged. I have one of the camera’s monitored, for $5 per month Cdn. I have other cameras that I don’t pay a fee for, notably Lorex. I would say good customer support.

I have a Ring doorbell and 3 remotes. I pay $100/yr for video access and management from anywhere. No complaints.

I have several trail cams located around my house along with wireless alarms. The batteries last a long long time and the little micro cards store hundreds of pictures. I'm going to try something new. I'm going to locate the alarms both inside and outside so I and the intruder can both hear them when they go off.

I could be wrong, but that sounds like a good idea. Especially if the alarm trips at good distance way.

My old circle has a lot of houses very close together so I don't need it BUT if I lived elsewhere I probably would use it.
If someone Bangs on my door I yell through the door "you got a warrant for my arrest?" If they yell "NO!~!~" I yell "then git the Holy Mackerel out of here!!!"

I do. I replaced my Samsung outside camera with a Ring wired outside camera and couldn't be more pleased with the video quality and app.

Inside, I still use a Samsung Smartthings hub and sensors, because there is more to choose from.

.

I also have 4 wired spotlight cameras from Ring and a Nest alarm system inside. Both work well.

Couple of friends have them in Mass. I am considering, they said lately there have been a lot of software glitches, cameras going off line for 2 - 5 hours at a time. Also a problem with history not being able to be viewed. They are happy with view and image quality when it's up and running.
Thanks for the replies.

I've found that automatic lights are of little use, they only show the intruder (thief) what he (she) needs to do and where to go and get it and how to do it. If I were an intruder it would be nice if the occupants had a lighting system to show me my way around. But I wouldn't like any noise or alarms going off to wake up anyone or their dog. I still like the old low tech method of a black line of thread or fishing line tide across the walkway (driveway) about knee high tied to a can full of rocks. Works very well. Very affordable also.

I have one ring doorbell along with an extra battery. So far in a fairly nice neighborhood I have caught a UPS driver checking above my door for keys and a porch pirate. Well worth the investment. The only complaint I have is it takes about two seconds to activate and I miss a little of the initial video. I also have a simply safe alarm that I am very satisfied with.

I have one and very satisfied with it. I have it configured to alert me when someone approaches my front door. Now when I receive a courier package I always know it has been delivered. For some bizarre reason a lot of the courier folks can't take the time to even ring the doorbell anymore, let alone wait for you to open the door and accept the package.
Cheers

I have blink cameras, totally wireless and very long battery life. They work so good I use 1 just for a trail cam.
