There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Right vent heat problem

I don't get to visit this forum often so I may have missed much. My wife has a 2011 RTS and in hot weather, it nearly blisters her ankle and shin. I have read of a couple of different aftermarket fixes, but was just wondering if BRP has acknowledged the problem and offered their own fix? I would appreciate any and all info or suggestions on this topic.

Here's some current related discussion, but Search will show a lot more....

It may sound too simple, but the best thing I've found to deal with the right vent heat is a good pair of boots.

:agree: With a good pair of riding boots, you will feel the heat, but it won't burn you or become unbearable. The spyder is so easy to ride, that a lot of people are going without the proper riding gear. It is convenient to ride in shorts and sneakers/sandles when you are on 3 wheels, but it isn't recommended. If you want to ride without boots, you will have to try some of the mentioned solutions in the forum. Most of the solutions require buying panels to cover the radiator exhaust vent and opening up other locations to vent the hot air. The products are sold by vendors supporting the forum.

Good questions as far as the BRP aspect. What does a dealer do when someone brings the RT back and says my right foot is melting?? What is BRPs response? Do the cold country folks think this is not a legitimate issue as they did nothing to resolve it in the 2011/12 models?
That said, I did some of the aftermarket fixes---put on the lower block off plate and catalytic converter shields as well as cutting two round holes in the lower part of the swoosh plate. Much better and bike runs as cool as before. Next mod we need someone to invent is for crotch heat.

I just received my SpyderPops stuff, so I'm going to be doing the same heat mods. Although I'm still not sure if I want to drill holes like you did or remove both bottom panels. I know removing the bottom panels will allow more engine noise, but it will be easier to change the oil. I'm also installing the Baker Air Wings to help control the air flow. To resolve the crotch heat, I'm hoping the Kontour seat that I ordered will help with that.

On my previous 2008 RS/Gs wore all the gear all the time. I never experienced the right foot heat problem but followed the topic with interest. On my present 2008 RS/GS I had to send my riding outfit in to get it fitted. I rode with blue jeans and my ankle top boots and my right foot cooked. I added all of SPyderPops dams, heat management, cat shield and nothing seemed to make much difference. I just convinced myself that this Spyder ran hotter. That part was easy since the temp gauge has been recalibrated, I hear, and this bike runs at 3-5 bars while the other Spyder ran at 2-3 bars

I got my BRP riding outfit back and, you guessed it, I no longer have the problem. I now notice that my right foot is hotter because I am sensitized to it, but the riding gear seems to 'fix' the problem. While summer is upon us out west I think I will continue to ride with all of my gear.

So one can ride on "THE PEGS" comfortably, I'm toying with the idea of adding two to three inches of Black plastic or stainless, formed to fit, that will kick the hot air out just beyond the right peg. Can't see a reason why it can't be done, or why it wouldn't work. The hurdle will be making it look clean.

get a sheet of paper put it in the empty space and draw where the edges are take the pannel off and buy a notebook with a flexiable plastic cover cut cover and rivit it in place works great i ride to work in very breathable shoes no heat problems any more feel free to pm me with any questions or pics if your local or want to take a ride to huntersville area i can help you out

Heat

I rented a Spyder RT last weekend...first ride ever! I put approx 400 miles on it in two days....loved it...more fun then any two wheeler I have owned. It was hot in SoCAl inland, 90 degrees plus...I did not notice the right leg heat only the middle leg!! It needs a crotch coler for sure. I am negotiating a buy ...looking at a 2011 rt ac for 19,900 brand new plus tax, tags approx 22,200 out the door! Glad I found the spyder world. I have owned ultrglides, valks and other cruisers...I enjoyed the spyder the most.

I took some door weatherstrip and glued it all along the inside edge of the seat. When I close the seat down the seal goes between the seat and the tupperware and does a good job of keeping heat from leaking out from under the seat. You have to spread the seat a little when closing it but it works good for the infamous crotch heat.

Beadriders help with the hot seat problem. It allows for some air flow between your butt and the seat. Beadriders also keep the butt out of the seat puddle if you get cought in the rain.
