• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I, like many, am not impressed with the right side heat issue and do not see a totally viable solution but I am thinking our loud here and have a few questions. The 2013 RT has a closed swoop and I am wondering just what temp the radiator is when it is at 5 bars on the led? I know about the various block off plates but the '13 is a little different. I do not like the idea of cutting open holes in the swoop to use with any of them for several reasons one being what effect they will have on the closed coverings and the need to cut holes in them too. I am thinking it must be lower than the temp inside the Tupperware. Will it help keep the engine cooler if the holes are drilled..say with a 2 or 3in. hole saw and where will the added air pressure exit? Yes it gets hot around the gas tank and cap but I am thinking the gaps in that area will be the egress point. I do not like the idea of drilling holes in the lower plate in front of the engine it creates an ingress for water and dirt that I am not comfortable with. If I do drill holes I want them to be in a place (rear the farther the better) for egress of the added pressure which should also allow what I think is lower temp air to cool the engine pass by. I have seen some shade tree mechanics make Swiss cheese out of the plates, not for me. I want to do something that will allow the pressure to escape and not allow water or dirt ingress.

The cheap and easy method may be drill holes and rout radiator hose elbows from the swoop to the bottom plate but that eliminates the possible additional engine cooling effect but prevents the water and dirt issue. The idea I like best is drill the holes open and ad a louver like a home heating vent at the rear to add some suction via venturi effect that will allow the air from the radiator to pass through the engine area and cool it too. I am sure the engine is hotter that the radiator correct? A rearward directed HVAC vent with at least a screen should help alleviate my concerns. I would like some advice on if this is a better way to go about this. How big of holes would allow both right side holes to be covered I do not know the CFM of the fan and what size holes would handle it? Are the existing exits too big and there to match the left side? I hate to try it and over heat because once the cutting is done it cannot be undone. Your Thoughs?
 
What's wrong with a little water and dirt getting in on the engine?

I ran my Harley, my Suzuki, my Honda and my Yamaha like that for years.

It does wash off.

Dah get some seal floor boards and when you foot gets HOT just pull your foot back to cool off thats what I do and no need for spending extra money on blockoff plate....:2thumbs:

I got 'em DLX :yes: I want to ride with my feet up front. I am exploring several ideas including 6 holes that can be pluged with nylon 1" black plugs if I so desire. I am also looking at the metal honeycomb and thinking of using heat reflective tape on them. The side we see will be black the aluminum side will go to the inside. They are pricey though wish I could get plastic honeycomb like the other side I am sure it would be cheaper.
 
It is 110 here this time of year. Wear high boots. No problem with heat. Riding any motorcycle without boots and gloves is crazy.
I have no idea how you do that with boots and no mods. I went from super thick boots to even thicker boots and all that happened is my left foot got way hotter with the sun beating down on it. The right foot cooked off just the same as before! I got the issue resolved with mods finally. Someday, maybe we can meet up and compare notes.

You'll likely feel more heat through the seat and find the fuel boiling sooner. Unless routed properly, the heat seems to find its way to the headers and back up again, making things worse. If you drill the holes too high, it'll trap the heat behind the Tupperware and make most of the right side body too hot to touch.
 
Base RT without foglights?...
Pop those covers out, and see if you can work a bit of ductwork from there, down to the headers... A little high speed airflow might just take the heat right on out the back of the bike before it has a chance to percolate upwards...

I have added a plastic louver to the bottom pad area to do just this. It does help lower the engine temps. I ran at highway speeds with intake air temp at 98 degrees and the analog gauge will drop to only one third the scale. :yes: Sat in stop and go traffic going 3 miles in 40 minutes. :helpsmilie: No overheating :bowdown:

The bad side, it also throws heated air back up on your foot more than just having the bottom pan off. :lecturef_smilie:

Dave, since my Cat disappeared, my 2013 RTS SE5 never goes higher than 4 bars. Big difference in the heat!

I have only seen 6 bars once or twice mostly 5 once in a while 4 but in stop and go here in Myrtle Beach I get a hot foot now and then.
