• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Riding side by side

I just had this burning question. I know its hard to ride side by side with the spyder and another bike. and Iam sure its even harder to do it with spyders. But the question I have is can you do either one of these with in the law? What are your thoughts?

At anything above parade speeds side-by-side in a standard lane relly is not safe with any machine. The condition of most roads at some time will require you to manuver to one side of your half lane and even with standard bikes ther is not enough room. The 'normal' two second stagger might be just a little short for the Spyder as it gives NO room for error.

There are lots of things in life that, according to some law, some where, are legal but that may not make them right or reasonable. You probably can find out for most states by just going to the internet and looking it up in their traffic codes.

I know you just wanted an answer and got a soap box speech but I just hate the thought of someone messing up TWO SpYders at a time. Ride safe, Plastic Up/Rubber Down!

I ride in groups all the time. There's more than enough room for a bike to pull in beside a Spyder, or vice versa. In fact, on some roads, my buddy and I can ride for miles ( or km's as it turns out) side by side.

I certainly can't recommend side by side riding, even with a standard motorcycle. Various sanctioning organizations long ago gave up this practice, and now staggered formation is the norm. The only time bikes are usually side by side on an organized ride is at stops, and in parades or demonstrations. When we ride as a group with our club, my wife's Spyder gets a slot to herself. She also leaves more room ahead of her, since she is actually following the next bike, and not the staggered one ahead of that, and the following bike leaves her ample room. This leaves everyone the space to deal with road conditions, drivers cutting in, and so forth. Will a bike and a Spyder, or even two Spyders fit side by side on a straight road...yes. Is it a good idea...not in my opinion. Better safe than sorry.

Well HDX and I can ride side by side no problem. I can ride right next to him on his Harley but we don't do it for an entire ride - we mainly do it if we want to tell eachother something. Not sure about it being a law or not - :dontknow:
