There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Reverse Question

I have a 2010 RTSM5 and when I put it in reverse it backs up fine BUT if you give it any Throttle it acts as though it is in limp mode. With that said I cannot back it up on to a trailer with a extended ramp or even back it up into my driveway. Now my driveway is not steep the incline is only about 2 to 3 inches per foot. I contacted Rendono motor sports and they informed me that that was a safety feature built into the RT. But I have talked to other people with RS etc and they tell me that they can spin the back wheel in reverse. So at this point I am confused. So my Question is for those of you who have a 2010 RTSM5 does your reverse limit you while it is engaged.
Thank you in advance for your comments or suggestions.

Yes, there is a limit to how fast you can go in reverse on the RTM5. I also have a GS, but my wife rides that, which means it's always in slow speed, regardless of gear.

I have a 2010 RT AC SM5 and have not had any issues in reverse. I have not had to back up a ramp yet, but some of the hills I have backed up are at a good angel, about what a trailer ramp would be.

If it will not back up a ramp, then there is a problem somewhere. When I back up, I usually don't give it much thottle and it is very responsive.

It sure sounds as if you need a trip back to the dealer to show them what the bike is doing... :gaah:
Good Luck and let us know what they find.

The nanny will not only go into limp mode, but shut down the Spyder (RS or RT) at the first sign of wheelspin in reverse. You might be able to spin the tire, but only for a second. The rpm is also much more limited in reverse, so limp mode kicks in quickly. This may all be accented if the Spyder is tilted a lot and the yaw sensor kicks in, but I can't say that for sure, just guessing. As your dealer said, this is a safety feature built into the Spyder. If your driveway and situation make this a problem, you may have to find another solution...like pulling into the driveway or trailer and backing out. Sorry, but it's the nature of the beast. Sorry!

Are we talking rear tire here? Because Leira's RS-S SM5 "Check Engine" light comes on when the rear tire spins (our garage has a small step to prevent water accumulation on the driveway to enter the garage... but I live on top of a slope:hun:). The front tires stop at the step if Leira doesn't go fast enough, rear tire spins (and leaves a tiremark on my garage floor :banghead:) and then the "Check Engine" light comes on. After shutting the :spyder2: down and re-start, light goes off.

I had trouble going up my driveway when it was snow covered [1/2 inch] as soon as the wheel would spin the engine would cut out. So i figured i would have more traction in reverse, As they say in Brooklyn that was even worster:gaah: My driveway is on a hill also but not as extreme as 2/3 inches per foot.

My driveway is pretty steep and my 2011 RT backs right up it no problem. I think it would back up faster than I would want to go. I would say you have a problem for sure.

Same here, I have a slopped driveway and back into my garage everytime I get home with no problem, plenty of power and I have to be carefull to feather the throttle to aviod backing to fast.

If I am on flat ground in reverse with the clutch engaged and throttle a bit over 1/8 to 1/4 standing still the motor will act as if the plugs are missing but once out or reverse everythings normal.

You should not get a check engine light. Limp mode or having the engine cut off would be normal for tire spin more than a revolution or so, in reverse. The Check Engine is something that should be looked at if it is a frequentr occurance.

That is the rev limiter. The rpm is severly limited in reverse.

While speed on both RS's and RT's is limited in reverse, I have backed my 2010 RT up a fairly steep ramp into an enclosed trailer with no problem at all. I backed up pretty slowly since clearance was tight but there was no lack of power.

It's only happened twice. Took Roxy the RS-S yesterday for a nice spin around the country (Gray :spyder2: is having rear view mirror issues and I am waiting for the tab housings to arrive :gaah:... but at least it gives me time to do some other proyects ) and she was a lot fun with no warnings coming on. Even backed her to the garage and no tire spinning, no Check engine light!

I know with my 2011 RT-AC I can back it up a fairly steep incline. I also have to be careful when backing on the level or down an incline because the beast can tend to go faster than I'm comfortable with.
