• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

reverse fixed

About 2800 miles in my reverse quit working. Wettest Seattle winter in years so it had been sitting a while. Service called yesterday to say they replaced the reverse solenoid and all works now.

I'd looked at Spyders for years before I bought and didn't buy due to high number of repair issues. It looked like things had been getting better. A failure in a part after this short a time doesn't inspire confidence. Has this part been an issue for others?

Don't know. ..!!

Have not heard of this issue. Stuck in reverse, cable issues on the manual models but not the selinoid going out. :banghead: but all is well that ends well, still a bit disconcerting....

:agree: This hasn't been a problem that has been widely reported; I guess that might be good news...

...even if it's no consolation to you.

Glad to hear that it has been fixed!

Thanks

I drove it down to the dealer, about 40 miles, in a rain storm on Saturday. Picked it up today, a beautiful crisp sunny spring day, and they had washed it, very well, and all seemed good. Larson Powersports in Fife, south of Seattle, Washington. I bought the bike elsewhere, but this place has been courting the local Spyder group... and so far so good.

SO glad to be riding again. Cool bike.

As mentioned above, not an issue that has shown up on a regular basis.

I have had 5 Spyders and put over 130,000 miles in total on them. No major failure of any mechanical parts to report.

Sounds like you found a keeper for service when needed

Depends on what part they actually replaced. I had the reverse actuator part number 710003776 and the reverse cable 710002889 replaced not long ago. See my post in the 1330 shop talk forum. Did not have the same symptoms you had. Mine would not go into first but would go into reverse and neutral. The dealers tech and BRP had the devil of a time to diagnose the problem to the part. It was the tech that eventually figured it out. The part is on every Spyder made and I was told this was one in a million failure thus BRP's lack of knowledge regarding the failure mode. After replacing the part the computer had to be reflashed by riding the Spyder around town hooked up to a lap top with the software. The good news is the occasional E that would flash up in the gear position indicator since the Spyder was new now no longer happens. I've put over a 1000 miles since the service and never get the E anymore.
