• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Resurrection...looking for Goldwing quiet...

3rd, I think thats where the schuberth excels....plus that collare comes out for the bluetooth set up. They are a tight fitting helmet....so far i think my head is adapting to the helmet instead of the helmet to my head...:gaah:
I wore mine once with the standard collar, which is very soft. When you install the SRC collar, you will notice a difference. It's more rigid than the standard collar, and takes a slightly different technique to get on... especially if you wear glasses.

I used to put my Scorpion Exo900 on first, then my glasses. With the Schuberth, I found that I could put the helmet on with my glasses on. It's a very snug, quiet, helmet. :2thumbs:

Schuberth helmet

I have had one since it recently became available. great helmet but....
1. quiet while closed but not as quiet as my Arai
2. can't ride above 30 with the shield open. wind closes it every time. only a problem when its HOT
3. much harder to get the helmet to close properly with the communication module on.

i still need earplugs, but rx plugs work great

haven't decided which to wear to MV, gotta look into weather forecast

I just retired my Scorpian Exo 900 in favor of a Schuberth C3. WOW, what a difference! No more annoying whine from passing vehicle tires, MUCH less wind noise, and now I can actually hear myself think. :2thumbs:

Thats one pricey puppy. It better be quiet!

^^^ What Desert Spyder said ^^^

This really got hijacked. Started out for whisper quiet muffler and then pets and helmets got involved.:roflblack:

Still haven't made RT whisper quiet.:dontknow:

I guess my point was that "quiet is in the ear of the beholder". :joke:

I'm still debating on the communication module. How well does it work?

Thanks

SRC module...

I figured after spending the big $$$ on the helmet, why hang a blob on the outside of it. I like the system, and it works really well. The only drawback is that the range is somewhat less than the other Cardo units. I wanted it mailny for the wireless use of my audio system, gps, and phone.

Good to know Dave, thanks. I'm in the same boat, the range isnt important to me. Will pick 2 of the up soon, right now i dont want the distractions until i log some more miles on the bike.

thanks again

john

I have a Schuberth C3, and like it . Took it to MV and it did well in all the rain. However, if I use the communication collar with earplugs I can't get the volume up enough to hear it. Might just be my worn out ears/

Quietness

I just posted yesterday about the vibes from the engine. I never liked the V-twins because of the noise and vibes. I thought that the RTS would be much quieter since the price is about $27,000. I have a 2009 Suzuki Burgman 650 that is as quiet and as smooth as my 07 Toyota Avalon. It is also a V-twin. I know it is not a GW, which I have had 4 of those also. The bike is fun though.

Sorry for the MIS-direction, but I'm still with you on this

Yeah, this thread got kinda off topic:dontknow:but all in well meaning I believe:helpsmilie:But like you, I'd still:popcorn: like to find that elusive exhaust:hun: that would put out a lower but quieter tone:dontknow: Still can't stand the sewing machine sound:banghead: of the stock RT exhaust.

Thanks Cincy,

This isn't a call for how to protect ears and cover up road noise but to attempt get a 'Goldwing Whisper' from a V-twin engine. Standing off to the side while SWMBO was practicing in the parking lot, I realized that the RT is not a loud machine but would still like to attain the 'whisper'.

...but to attempt get a 'Goldwing Whisper' from a V-twin engine. QUOTE]
That is one VERY tall order...
The 'Wings have had years to fine tune their package and that flat-six(and the previous fours...) were pretty dang smooth running engines anyway.
You probably would have to go to a larger "can" with lots more baffling in it and then have a smaller outlet in order to choke out the noise...

This thread kicked off with Yol Bolson wondering if he could cut down the exhaust noise of his RT but he wasn't expecting GW levels of quietness.

Surely any marque of road machine has a characteristic noise by which it comes to be recognised? My mother-in-law used to have a dog which picked up the sound of my BeeEmm from other approaching traffic when I was still streets away. The mutt used to go bananas with pleasure long before I arrived. It figures. Took my ma-in-law a while to see I had a good side but that's another doggy tale...:dontknow:

I like the throaty response of the RT's exhaust under hard acceleration. It is what it is and have no wish to change it anytime soon.

I personally wouldn't mind queiter...if it could be done without taking a performance hit. I prefer the quiet of my BMW. On a long road trip, the wind noise (even with earplugs) is tiring enough, without the added exhaust noise every time you throttle up. The noise level from the stock RT is not objectionable, but it could be better, IMO.

Scotty... Would you ever HATE ryding near me! :D I normally find the loudest heavy metal/70s rock station and crank it up...
Makes the guys on Hawgs with open pipes jealous! :2thumbs:
I will pay for it someday...

In my onion, ; And i've had bikes from 1 to 6 cylinders , V's, Flats, In Lines, And i have a twin parallel now. The Spyder's is diffident it doesn't make a sound [al-la motorcycle] it makes noise. ie. engine,belt/trans, wind.
I don't think a larger/quieter muffler will help, most noise comes from up front.

:agree: I hear very little exhaust noise. Most noise I hear is from the engine, wind and/or the passenger behind me.
