There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Anyone see the report on the new RT's in Wingworld?

Sounds like they think there's a lack of power, riding two-up, loaded in mountains, pulling a trailor. :dontknow:

People can always find something wrong...

Let's load up the trailer, find a really steep incline, and have both riders be 250 lbs. (minimum)...no, I didn't read the article and I have no intention of doing so. I could write about any vehicle on the road and find some faults...

Thank you for mentioning this but I hope most of here can acknowledge the point I am making...I'm not trying to be rude to you, but if you have a writer who is biased already against 3 wheelers (which may or may not be the case...who knows???), anything can be written...

I read it

I read the article and since I just moved from a GW trike to a SE5 I found it interesting. Stu Oltman is a long time Goldwing expert so that is part of his opinions. The difference between the 2 engines alone is remarkable. The GW runs best at 3K or less while the Spyder wants to be at 4K or more. Going from one to the other is a major cultural shift. Goldwing riders will not like the intensity of the Spyder. Spyder riders won't like the laid back behavior of the Goldwing. Both will get to the destination.

I had a lot of fun on the Goldwing. The Spyder makes me smile more. ;)

I think our natural human nature is to defend whatever we happen to be riding at the time. As a happy Spyder owner, I would say and give argument for how I like the Spyder better than a Goldwing. My friends who I ride with have a new Goldwing and LOVE it! They like the Spyder, but obviously like their GW better than my Spyder, because that is what they ride. The two bikes are very different vehicles, and really shouldn't be compared side by side. It would be like comparing a Yamaha Raptor sport quad to my Suzuki Vinson quad. Both get you down the trail, but one is for sport, the other is meant for more utility applications.

Just my 2 cents worth...

There is a saying; "Anything is possible if you don't know what you're talking about."

This isn't to say that the writer of the article is ignorant, just something to keep in the back of your mind when you read anything. And there is no doubt the Gold Wing trike is a great vehicle.

But it isn't going to be able to compete with the RT in a number of ways simply by design.

A Goldwing, trike or not, has a bigger motor and by specs. has more horsepower and torque. But I think most people would acknowledge the Goldwing power plant is overkill for the kind of vehicle it is. (not withstanding that more is always better).

After owning a Spyder and having ridden behind Lamont on his RT (and having had extended conversations with Lamont about his feeling about power on the RT), I think BRP's new touring product is going to fare just fine in this respect.

If I were in the Goldwind trike business I would be concerned.

I know Stu and Fred and Stu was sour grapes about my trigger wheel for the Goldwing too yet most everyone else loved it. I think the fact that Fred likes it's so much says a lot more to me than Stu's comments.

I also read the report (twice) after getting the codes ( winter/storage )
if that all is written in a winger-magazine .. thats the best possible advertising for the new RT !!
was clear that the engine is for a gw-driver too small - but all the rest seemed to be better for the author
the one sentence : in critical moments the RT would be 1000-times safer than a GW .. was missing
so will be intresting to read the first live-tests (in the rain ?)
goldwing/RT/BMW-LT
..but still could not test it..

Have any of these folks taken the Trike training course? There is no comparison of the safety between the GW, LT, Hardley, or any other standard Trike and the Spyder.

While I have no interest in the RT at all, I was considering a V-Rod conversion, or Hack - so I took the course. Bottom line - something happens at speed, where you instinctively crank the front wheel of a Trike or Hack, and over you go. This is much more difficult on a Spyder - avoidance is much more "car like" and far safer.

Having taken the course, it's Spyder or two wheels for a bike. Period. That kind of risk is not fun for me - kinda like shooting an old rusty gun, without cleaning it...

My $0.02.

After getting to ride the RT last week, I would have to agree with Fred and Lamont. The RT is a wonderful bike. Can't wait to upgrade when the time comes. In the meantime, I will keep wearing down the rubber on my GS!
