Replaced my Y gaskets today... were my old ones bad????

Hey you smart folks.
I was reading on this forum on how the BRP Y gaskets were not very good so I broke down and bought the Honda equivalents.
My bike has 7000 miles on it and I've seen posts that indicate that you should replace them after 6000 so I went and did it today.
It actually was relatively easy... Took my all of about an hour to do.
But my question is "DID I NEED TO REPLACE THEM?"
Check out the picture below and let me know your comments on how my old ones look.
I have no clue what "bad" ones look like. Anyway I'd like some feedback
Thanks in advance.

Needed new gaskets

Replacing them was the right thing to do. Using the GL1800 gaskets is also the correct way to go.

We have found that re-torquing the band clamps about once a month helps to increase the life span of the gaskets too. The volcano temperatures when running and then cooling at night seem to loosen them a wee bit. Ken krb1945

And thank you for finding those as a replacement. :2thumbs:

Thanks for the info. Do you have a part number for them? Would like to get them as I am getting close to the 6000 miles.

When I replaced mine with the Honda gaskets around 8K the BRP's were still just fine. It was not necessary to change them at the time. Once I got into the job and hacked up the BRP's getting them out I obviously was past the point of no return. :D

No regrets though.:2thumbs:

Actually... those didn't look as bad as some, and were probably still doing their job.

Regardless, replacing them allows you to enjoy your spyder for many more miles before the need arises to replace them again... Those Honda gaskets will last a long time.

and thank you Lamont for

allowing me and others to use your site to find help from others and offer help to others. This is a team effort and as a team there isn't anything we can't fix. Ken krb1945

you refred to these as the Y gaskets, these are the two "top" ones? before the O2 sensors? mine needs replacing @ 16k+
Wife's Spyder - also has a oil plug trouble - see other post -

Yes. There is one on each side of the Spyder held together by the clamp and a sping. I replaced mine with the GL 1800s at 15,000 and found that the left side was in good condition, but 1/4 of the right side gasket was gone.

Y Pipe Gasket Replacements

Thanks for sharing information about using Honda 1800 Goldwing exhaust gaskets in place of the stock ones. I haven't replaced my yet but when I get close to 6,000 miles I will use the Honda ones. The gasket at the end of the Y-Pipe where the muffler attaches, will the same Honda gasket work?
