• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BUDS New User - cleared codes I'd never seen occur?!

Purchased the system with a 10 Year Mega License. Hooked up my 2013 Spyder and the ECM had the original software dated 12/07/12. So as expected it had an ECM update, but said the fault codes in memory would be cleared. The 3 old codes in memory were P081B, P1174 and P0605. I have never seen them occur since I purchased almost 2 years ago, the original battery in it was replaced by the original owner just before I purchased it as it would not hold a decent charge, I suspect a couple of those codes was caused by that. Will be driving it today to see if I can feel a difference in how it runs with the updated ECM, It did Idle more evenly (RPM) after the flash.

Interesting, I have seen updates noted for BUDS2, but do not recall seeing them for earlier models via aftermarket BUDS.
I was under the impression, for BUDS, all firmware and updates were only available via the oem use of BOSSWEB.
Maybe BajaRon or James Thorne can offer more details.

This is all new to me, I hope I don't mess with something I should not :yikes: Think I will disable the Key security thing beings I have the Mega License, to bad I can't disable the wait to start Crap. I notice I can turn of either the injector or the spark or both on either cylinder. Not touching that area for sure.

Rick. Software updates are embedded in BUDS, and BUDS2 for that matter. The latest version of BUDS is version E3.8.2.1, last updated in 9/23/2016. (Menu Bar-Help-About BUDS) So, when you downloaded that, it contained the update for your 2013. Same stuff the dealers get, different delivery method. Everything about your 2013 is now up to date.

Unfortunately, your 2013 still has the old DESS system. That was changed starting in 2014. You won't be able to disable DESS. But, it's been so reliable that you don't need to. But, you can disable DESS for everyone else with a 2014 up to 2017. They'll appreciate it.

But, when you get your hands on a service manual, you can learn how to go through your sensors and make sure that they're zero'd properly - it'll steer better - and the VSS system will work properly. Start up BUDS without the MPI hooked up, go to Open a file, but go up one level in the folder, and you'll see an Auto Save folder. BUDS auto saves a copy of the Spyder's document each time you hook up. Open the latest Auto Save file and then just surf around with all the pages and tabs. You don't have to be hooked up to your machine, that way. And you can look at the Demo files, too, of course, but the Auto Save file is your specific machine. Have fun with it, but most of all, if it ain't broke.......

PS. A bit surprised that your 2013 was out of date. Would have thought the ECM was brought up to date when the 2013 recall was done. But, maybe this update came along afterwards. Oh, just saw it is an ST. Never mind.

Thanks for the info will check that stuff out.

this screen shows now on startup when opening BUDS, after the ECM was updated, goes away when clicked on. Not sure what's happening. Does not seem to affect anything.

Hey mebbe the same type code for the new 2024 clusters that fail. After replacing mine, dealer had to get BRP to code it in. I had a conversation with the service folks, and they had all the latest dealer service levels of BUDS/BUDS2. However, they did not have the Mechatronic license. Not sure that BRP allows that for the dealers. Dealer is gonna look into it tho, as they could not get the new cluster to code to the bike.

I don't know, did not change any thing, just updated the Firm ware in the ECM. It runs fine so I'm not going to worry about it. ;)

Any chance that either the ECM or the Cluster has been replaced over the years? That screen isn't addressed in the manual. If it was a serious problem, you would get this screen instead, (see pic), and the engine would not run. But to double check, ensure you use BUDS and not BUDS2 on your 2013. Ride it.

It's Buds E3.8.2. That screen never appeared till after the firmware update. So not sure why? Over on Facebook, BRP BUDS/BUDS2 TECH where I purchased my System. This was posted in response to my same question there.

(Click on modules at the top menu… then cluster … then security coding.
Then copy past the number from one field to the other. Save then write data.)

So I will be doing that.

Cool. Will be interested in how that works out.
