There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Repairs in Cuba

I have been studying “Everything Spyder” under the direction of Professor “Lamonster” and Associate Professor “Scotty” at the Spyder Lovers Institute of Technology for more than two years. The professors are supported by hundreds of graduate student assistants. Professor Lamonster’s program has been very effective in developing my Spyder expertise, which in most cases exceeds that of the “professional” Spyder technicians, whom I encounter as I travel around the country. It is distressing to discover that I know more about the Spyder than the “expert” who will be working on my beloved motorcycle. This is not always the case, however, and occasionally I will meet an authentic expert. This happened recently at Cowtown in Cuba, MO.

Kevin Lackner is the “surprise find” in this remote and obscure place. He works at a dealership with an “unusual” name (to say the least), in a very small town, population 3447, in rural Missouri. Yet, he would probably compare well to the best Spyder mechanic/technicians in North America. Kevin is intelligent, articulate, well grounded in his craft through continuing professional education and relevant experience, and exhibits the professionalism of an authentic expert. I think he may even know more about Spyders than I do.:2thumbs:

I arrived at Cowtown with a severe running problem which turned out to be a faulty spark plug wire (second time in less than a year) which Kevin was able to quickly diagnose and repair. I also had a headlight that only worked intermittently, and I needed some maintenance that I was not able to do before leaving home. These are not difficult problems, but the important thing is the manner in which they were handled. How they do the work is as important as the result. I don’t want any unintended consequences. I was able to talk to Kevin about the details of what he intended to do and was more than satisfied. Good job, Kevin!

He did study at the SpyderLovers Academy!
Congratulation Kevin

I also had repairs done in Cuba and they were on the spot--- got it done quick and right. Broken drain plug & oil change. Simple stuff for the most part-- didn't have time to mess with before I left. Took them 1 hour max.

Another thing I learned--- they CAN hook you up to BUDDS and 'clear' the Spyder (punch into the system what work was done,etc.)... WITHOUT doing any updates.

I had Kevin change the oil on my RT and run it through the gears to reprogram the gps. I came away thinking the same as you did. Good guy for sure that knew what he was doing. :doorag:

Yes I will agree that by far this is the best Service Department I have ever had the opertunity to deal with... Fortunately for me this is my HOME DEALERSHIP so I am Blessed with an outstanding Service Department... Dan and Kevin make a GREAT SPYDER team for sure...

I'm not sure Kevin looks at the board much, I'm sure he pops in every now and then but actually his new nickname developed over the whole Spyderfest week-end... Here is how it came about::::

If you noticed on Saturday he had a BRP shirt on that had stitching on the front that said ( MASTER TECHNICIAN ),,, I noticed it and the next time I saw him in the parking lot coming to get yet another SPYDER to work on I called him MT,, He then said "What do you mean?" I pointed to his shirt and said "MASTER TECHNICIAN"---MT thats your new nickname... Man you should have seen the SMILE :) on his face,, he LOVED it when I called him MT though-out the rest of the week-end, great kid for sure...
(Heck I have to speak nice to the service department at this time, my spyders there for a service,, ha ha)

Anyway, yeap agreed,, GREAT bunch of guys at the Service Department at CowTown USA Cuba MO

For fixing a faulty spark plug wire and a headlight that only worked intermittently and to be deemed the best Spyder mechanic/technicians in North America is a great honor :firstplace: So seeing the North America trophy has been given out then I guess we in SoCal only have the best Spyder mechanic/technician on the west coast :2thumbs: Congrats to Kevin, good job and keep up the good work!

MT is the BEST!

I am Blessed with an outstanding Service Department... Dan and Kevin make a GREAT SPYDER team for sure...l couldn't ask for a better Tech, he knows his stuff, and if he doesn't, he will find an answer for you.

They installed all my lights and filter, except for the Triple Play, outstanding job :2thumbs:

Len need your help! Missing one guy (I know his name, but I drew a blank), forgot your name, sorry :(

Hmm...

Our youngest is moving out soon. Maybe it's time to move to Missouri?!

(I drove to Kansas City last June and people actually apologized for the unusually hot weather. It sounds silly, maybe, to say about the population of an entire state, but--nice, nice people there.)

I know you are speaking with “tongue in cheek”, but I would like to respond to the underlying message in your comments.

I speak of North America out of respect for our Canadian friends who gave us the Spyder, this wonderful machine which brings so much joy to our hearts. It is easy to forget that the Spyder is a Canadian motorcycle, imported from Canada.

I meant no disrespect for the people of Southern California (wherever that is?).:2thumbs:

If you read my comments carefully, you will see that no trophy has been given out. To do so would be presumptuous for any individual. It would require knowing the unknowable. The best we can do is to say there is an elite status of mechanics/technicians who meet high standards for knowledge, skill, and professionalism. Harley-Davidson calls these Master Technicians and has very strict requirements for qualification. A Harley Master Tech must be re-qualified on a regular basis. Hopefully, BRP will have such a program in the future.

At the present time, there are very few really good Spyder mechanics/technicians. If you know of one, take him home and adopt him into your family. The underlying problem is the economics of scale. There are not enough Spyders sold to support a strong dealer network with proper training for service personnel. For most dealers, the Spyder represents only a small part of their total business. This makes them reluctant to invest in training programs and even to stock routine maintenance parts. I have encountered dealers who do not stock O-rings and crush washers. At one time, my home dealer, whom I have abandoned, would wait for someone to make an appointment for an oil change before the parts were ordered. The dealer said it could not afford to stock maintenance parts for all of the products it sells.

Greater sales success for the Spyder should have a wonderful ripple effect.

Glad to hear you found a gem of a mechanic and got your issues resolved quickly and professionally. They are out there, but for some reason seem kind of hard to find. Sort of like the whole diamond in a bunch of coal thing. :D
