There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Removing Throttle Side Heated Grip

Well my Spyder RT was vandalized today in a parking lot. Some idiot cut into my throttle side grip cutting a few of the heating element wires at the very end of the grip. Anyone know how to remove the rubber grip so i can replace it?

I will never understand why people damage other people's property for no reason what so ever other than to be just mean. If they would just think what they are doing and if their property was damaged, how would they feel. Sorry for your damage to your :spyder:. Maybe they have a survelence camera at their parking lot. Won't hurt to ask. I hope they catch that low life.

I asked ( ex cop here) but no luck. I believe it was just a jealous individual making his mark. I'm glad he or she didn't cut the seat too. I have a feeling that the grip is going to be costly to replace. It seams to be part of the throttle tube as opposed to a slip on grip. It has wires embedded in the rubber of the grip.

I believe it is replaced as an assembly. P/N 709400929 Throttle Heating Grip MSRP $255.99. If you have comprehensive that does not have a deductible or a low deductible, you may want to contact your insurance company.

Thanks Scotty, I also found the part but can't believe the price! But how do you remove the assembly?
It is a major job...requiring removal of the handlebar cover and the console assembly to route the wiring. If insurance will cover it, have the dealer do the work. If you do it yourself, a shop manual is advised to follow the BRP procedure. And don't forget to dust off those handy cuss words. :D

My dealer took pity on me and only charged me $214.50. LOL! The labor should be around an hour or $80. So $300 or so, my deductible is $250. The insurance company would most likely raise my premium $50 a year so I will just have the dealer do it.

Sorry that happened to you. WOW pricey too. Would an alarm have made a difference in this situation?

Hard to say. Only about a 1-1/2 inch was cut at the end of the right grip. But it was cut down to the throttle tube and several heating element wires were cut. I would just use some liquid vinyl to cover it up but I am concerned that if it got wet I may blow a fuse. So best to just replace it. Anyway if I had an alarm and the person got on the bike it would have gone off but who is going to do anything about it now a days. It was in a Lowes Parking lot and I was inside. If the person just walked by with a single sided razor blade and cut it the alarm may not have gone off. Alarms are great for Motel parking lots or if you are close by. But you know what they say, " Help is minutes away when seconds count!"
