• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Removing mirror without using sledge hammer?

The fog has lifted and the BP has dropped to near normal levels. I've spent this morning rereading all of the great advice which I really appreciate, so here is where I am with the still-attached mirror. (BTW - the left mirror has never been off either.)

I did exactly what Farmbanker said and sure enough it released and the bottom two pins are exposed as I look through the gap at the bottom of the mirror; however, no amount of hitting, smacking, rapping, or 'spanking the 5 year old's butt' have been able to release the top pin.

Can someone push me over the finish line if I've already released the bottom two pins?
Top pin slides off like a cell phone belt cip does...gently manuever around until it releases...

The nice thing for you now is that future removals will seem easier although the effort will likely be the same - you will just think it is easier :)

If you think the wrap makes you nervous, you should see a wife standing there watching you wrap the mirrors off of HER spyder!

Lamont,
Thanks for the video! :firstplace:
It sure makes it even easier to understand when you see it being done!

You learn quickly that the chain saw approach is expensive, and it really looks bad using liquid nails to put it back together.

If you are wanting to remove the mirrors to change the oil, there is no need. I have changed the oil and filter on the 2010 RT 8 times without touching the mirrors (35K miles). The way I do it is a lot easier and the mirror clips won't get broken in the process.

Take a deep breath, I can feel your pain. If you find one of the photos of the spring clamps that hold the mirrors on, study it closely. I did this and you really need to picture them when you whack up from the bottom on the outside of the mirror to loosen them. Use the palm of your hand and do it about as hard as you would spank a 5 year old up from the bottom on the outside edge......

So now I have to go get my fathers 64" 2" wide leather belt and fold it three times and beat my mirror till it cant stand up.... Wait......Im getting flashbacks from my childhood!!!

1 inch narrow dress belt in my childhood. I have behaved myself in church ever since.....:(

Extra keyhole part

I also have extras of the upper plastic "keyhole" as that's the part that is most likely to break when you're rapping on the mirrors to get them loose and the mirror moves a little too far before you can get it off the keyhole. The lower spring clips are called "housing" in BRP-speak, and the upper plastic keyhole is called the "housing clip". Parts 219800156 (lower spring clips -- 2 per mirror) and 219800158 (upper plastic -- 1 per mirror). (part numbers for 2010-2012)

Where were did you find the separate parts for the mirror? I obviously used too much force also, mostly from lack on knowledge, as I learning on this site. As usual do before reading, just assumed it was similar to the BMW LT mirrors, that's what assuming does for you.........
Anyway the upper plastic keyhole is damaged and will no longer "clip" the mirror. Hoping to get the parts but not sure where to look, first look said not available just the complete mirror housing, near $200 shipped. Any help will be appreciated. Relatively new owner and learning, left the LT in May and loving the RT

REMOVAL...

Most damage to the keyhole clips comes from improper or overly physical removal of the mirrors. I have never broken a clip on two RT's, although the mirrors have been removed frequently. To remove without damage I recommend the following:

1. Place one hand at the back of the mirror near the outer edge of the glass. This hand should apply light pressure toward the front to keep you from moving the mirror to far and breaking the clip.

2. With the other hand, rap against the front puter edge to pop the front spring clip loose. I describe the force of the hit as "firm, but gentle". A sharp, short rap is all you need. Do not tug or push, and be sure to resist with the other hand.

3. Move the backup hand to the top outer portion of the housing.

4. From underneath, rap upward with the other hand to pop the lower spring clip loose.

5. Gently lift straight up on the mirror assembly, about 1/2", then pull outward to slip the latch pin from the keyhole clip.

6. Pull the wires from inside the console until the wiring connector is clear of the body. An untrimmed wire tie on the cable will prevent the connector from falling back inside, when it too is pulled clear of the body.

7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to straighten the spring clips before you reinstall, so they are straight and parallel. Lightly lubing the latch pins helps, too.

INSTALLATION:
First, make sure the mirror spring wires are straight and parallel. If they are bent inward they may not catch the post,
and if they diverge or bend outward, the mirror will be loose. It can help to put a very tiny bit of lube on the outer,
conical part of the post only. I'm talking about a film here, not a glob. Make sure there is none on the back side (post notch).
Engage the keyhole slot first. Then rap downward firmly (but politely) on the outer edge of the mirror to seat the bottom latch.
Now rap forward on the outer edge of the mirror to seat the front latch. You can rap a little harder than you can taking the
mirrors off, because they won't fly across the room, but don't get carried away. Problems seating the latches are usually
caused by bent spring wires.

After using my gut, it still wouldn't snap in. I lifted the front corner slightly and it went in like a knife in butter. Meanwhile, I had bent and straightened a clip while trying the heavy handed method.

Mirror "clips"

I also have extras of the upper plastic "keyhole" as that's the part that is most likely to break when you're rapping on the mirrors to get them loose and the mirror moves a little too far before you can get it off the keyhole. The lower spring clips are called "housing" in BRP-speak, and the upper plastic keyhole is called the "housing clip". Parts 219800156 (lower spring clips -- 2 per mirror) and 219800158 (upper plastic -- 1 per mirror). (part numbers for 2010-2012)

Just noticed that the numbers given are for 2010 - 2012 vehicles does anyone know if they would fit the 2014?

The site I went on listed them under the 2014 RT SE6 but the number on the "housing clip" upper plastic keyhole I removed is 304849901. Anyone know if the 2010-2012 fits the 2014? Sure looks the same.
