relocated ipod/iphone connector - not charging connected device??

I moved the ipod/iphone connector from the rear trunk to on my dash it works fine in terms of playing music, but I just realized that it is not charging the connected device (ipod/Iphone) there are 7 wires and I connected them one at a time (since I had to splice in a 24" pc of cable to allow it to reach the dash any of the electronics folks out there have any ideas? is there an 8th wire/common ground that I am not seeing?

Check your terminations. If you are getting audio but no power, it usually means somethings not connected.

as for the connections, I am using posi-tap type connectors

I took the wiring harness apart after I got back from the owners event and re-wired it all

still no power

as previously noted, there are 7 wires on the ipod connector

since I couldnt find any 7-wire cabling at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, etc, I ended up using 2 x 4 lead cables and just ignored the unused 8th lead

I really dont want to pull it all apart again but, if I must, I must..... lol

You might need to. My rule of thumb is to wire and test BEFORE putting back together.
I would start from there the plug was originally connected to and trace back. I am following you and SteveMac since he also did it on his :spyder2:... This will be my winter downtime proyect... as well as amping the speakers

Was the stock cable "shielded"?
If so that maybe the missing ground for charging and if so the outside metal hood of the 7 pin din connector is your missing wire.

I'll be posting that once I get started. Like I said, this would be a winter downtime proyect. First order of business is to add another fuse box. I used to power my apps on older cars by splicing power from a fused wire , but these were older cars that the computer was not as complicated as it is now. Knowing the :spyder2:, any anomally could drain the battery and make the VSS, DPS, ABS and other lingo go ballistic, so adding a controlled power source independent from the components is the key. Next, I will be testing with the OEM speakers and see what levels it can handle. In my experience, I know when a speaker can take a certain beating. I am not looking to convert the :spyder2:'s radio into a surround sound, but I like to have a little bass and adding an amp with twitters in the front would be my optimal sound in an outdoor resonance.

hmmmmm...... I will have to check that.... there may have been an outside shield (tin foil) around the 7 inner cables....
