• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Reliability

I pick up my new Spyder Monday...pretty excited. However as I have been studying various post I developed a question about its reliability. I see numerous issues relating to the PS and even overheating and relay problems. In general how does everyone feel about the Spyders relability ?

We have been very happy with ours since March. A few problems, but only minor annoyances. No major failures. I think you may get a warped idea from the forum posts. People write when they have a beef, but seldom write when they are happy. Out of the maybe 10,000 sold, I doubt the percentage of major failures is high, although it may seem so from what you read. The SE5 seems to be having a greater degree of difficulties, but they are finally being resolved from what I read here. Let's put it thios way, could Lamonster have put 25,000 miles on his if it was a piece of trash? Uh-uh! Get your Spyder, ride it, and patiently work with the dealer if problems arise, and I'm sure you'll be fine. They wouldn't need warranties if they were all perfect, but most of us are riding the wheels off of ours.

well...

I'm past 8,100 miles already.... had a couple small issues which I was able to resolve with the help of Lamonster and my friends here on the forum..... done all the oil changes myself and it's never been back to the dealer since I brought it home in April....

I'd say that it's a pretty reliable vehicle comparing it to other bikes, the motor is a tank and the electronics leave a little to be desired but nothing major...... change the oil regularly and keep an eye on your belt, make sure you take the panels off and check things out from time to time and you shouldn't have any issues!

thank you all for your fast responses....think this site will be one of the best tools in my spyder tool box...thanks again

Had mine since June 300 totally awesome miles. Best thing that ever happened was buying a:spyder:.

sleepman...is yours an SE ?...the more i mine this, the more the issue seems to relate to SE's....

Nope, mines an SM. Only problem I've had was the blown exhaust gasket and I replaced that myself rather than go and wait at the dealer.

The spyder is a great amount of fun, if your dealership is dependable and their service guys are knowledgeable then even if you have an issue they should get you going quick. BRP is too reliable of a company to put a bad product on the road.

I have just short of 25,000 miles on mine and the only problem I've had were self inflected. :opps:

I will say that if you go to any message board on any product you'll see that every product out there has some sort of issues that get focused on in a message board.

I remember when the 1800 Goldwing came out and people were paying 20K for a product that was overheating and the frames were cracking.:yikes: Now you never hear about any of those issues even though they were real at the time.

I think BRP has a great product here and the dealer network is getting bigger so if you're out and about and do have a issue I'm sure you won't be stranded for long.

I would keep SpyderLovers bookmarked as we seem to know more than some dealers about the Spyder. :spyder:

1000 mile since October with no problems. It is easy to get caught up in the talk on any forum. I have learned so much about the Spyder and modifications here. Use this place to learn and connect. It is nice to be aware of problems others have and to have a resource in case you have problems, but don't fear reliability.

Tomorrow is 1 YR since I picked up #445. I've got 12,000 miles on the clock - not bad considering I am traveling (by air) about 40% of my time.

My Spyder has never let me down! Have travelled down to FL last March - temp in the 30's til I reached SC; out to MN a few months ago, including ferry ride across Lake Michigan and back. Wonderful machine!

March will be one year 9000 miles and just minor problem with e brake that dealer took care of

Oil in the airbox (common issue - although not happy about it). And now; coolant leak. And, that just plain sucks. I noticed it just a few days ago - a puddle under the Spyder after it's been parked (in my garage).

Some other people have mentioned the coolant leak occurring, as well. This is a strange one for me. Is BRP's quality control that bad? I'm thinking it is. I'm just thankful, I have no other real issues to report, other than some fitment issues already discussed. The dealer will remedy this leak under warranty.

Oh! Upon removing my airbox lid, I did notice some oil film at the seal where the lid connects with the airbox in some areas. Not much of a seal, is it? What are folks doing here to assure a better seal?

4,001 miles since Sept. 27th. 2008

I have about 3200 miles since June. It has not been back to the dealer since I bought it. One minor problem with parking brake that a little lube took care of. My main problem is that i only get to ride it on the weekends and,,,,Evan keeps making the list of must-have goodies longer and longer!:2thumbs:

And the great thing about really good message boards like Spyderlovers.com is the few people that have issues can network to find ways around them. The info you can find by talking to other owners is often way ahead of the Dealer/Mfg communications stream.

:agree:This company has been doing this for a LONG time. Even thou the :spyder: is a brand new concept, it is far from the first brand new concept that BRP and its Bombardier fore-fathers have brought to market. Their development of the snowmobile (yes, they INVENTED it!) and the PWC (Sea-doo) industries give them lots to draw from as this product matures.

I have noticed that most of the complaints about Dewalers are from non-snowmobiling parts of the country. Where the Spyder is represented by the MUCH newer ATV segment of the BRP network of dealers, the noise is greatest. Where the BRP snowmobile network pre-existed the Spyder, there is almost no noise. This supports my personal experience over time with this company, that they are 100% behind thier products.

Given some time, I think we will see a very strong network of support, by a responsive and customer oriented BRP, just as they have shown to thier loyal Ski-Doo customers since 1959.

And then, you have me........I work on Spyders for a living, and I really thought when they first came out that they would be a pain in the butt to work on, and we would be working on them alot, but low and behold, they are pretty reliable. Yes, I have replaced a bunch of major parts on Spyders, but they were covered under warrenty, and mostly premier editions, and demo units. BRP is always working on improving parts, and making stuff better.
