Relay replacements - in Canada

groundeffect

Registered User
Hi guys. I've read about the Autozone, Duralast 19271 41-5100 relay replacement from stores in the USA.

Does anyone know what the eqivilant relay (name/part number) would be from a Canadian shop like Princess Auto or even Napa Auto Parts?

Lamont's post on picking up spare relays does not show the pics anymore - it would help if someone had a picture of the common relays.

Also, are all of the relays the same in the Spyder (at least the ones that commonly go or wear out)?

Thank you

Can-Am Part # 2780021678.
The 710000740 was discontinued in early 2009.

Can-Am Part # 2780021678.

Thanks for the note. Just wondering thought, about if I'm in need of one can I can't wait for the dealer to ship the Can-Am part in.

Any recommendations on an equivalent part that could be purchased at places like Napa or Prince Auto, or Canadian Tire, etc...., in a pinch while waiting for parts to arrive at the Can-Am dealership?

Thank you.

So when are you getting your Spyder? Right now you have the record for the most questions asked about a product you don't even own yet. Maybe at this point you should wait till you get one and then ask where to get parts that you may never need. Folks here don't mind helping out but you're about to wearout your welcome with all these questions. Chillout a little bit Bro nojoke

:agree:

I was really cool with all these questions until I saw the one asking "for a picture of the tool kit" :gaah:

Good thing he does not want to buy a 25K Harley as none of mine have ever even come with a tool kit of any quality, and like it or not they still are the number one selling big bike (over 750cc) in the US.

Like the old "Alka-Seltzer" commerical used to say "Try it you"ll like it"

A spyder is a major purchase for sure, and not one to be taken lightly. But if you try hard enough you can talk yourself out of anything.

We had another guy on here who did this not too long ago, who ended up having money problems that kept him from getting a Spyder, and he now rides a scooter.

Although, he now says he's gonna get a 25K Spyder RT, so I'm not sure how that all works out?

A fellow Canadian sayin "I agree with Lamont, Eh"
I almost responded to your request for a pic of the tool kit but now you are over the limit. If you are this worried about relays for a bike you don't even have yet what will happen when you actually own one?

haha - I have a deposit down on one, now! They dealer wanted $1000.00 down, which from the look of the forum, is pretty standard. Now, I just have to wait for delivery on my very own Spyder! :D.

What kind of delivery time would I be looking at - the dealer is still trying to find out for me.

Sorry for all of the questions, but asking questions and the search feature on the forum has been great for helping me get some answers. I've been just trying to make an informed decision on this purchase, is all. I like to somewhat plan ahead. I'm sure you understand.

Thanks.
Cheers.

Groundeffect... Wise decisions...

require asking questions and research. To get answers and information this is the place to go. With the number of total years experience, savvy and just plain brain power here we can solve anything. I appreciate the questions because it made me review some things in my roadside repair kit I had forgotten. Keep asking the questions and in the end we'll all be smarter spyder owners/riders. /Ken

That's great!

What dealer did you end up ordering it from?

Do you have good amount of dealers near you there in Canada, or do you have to travel like so many of us US customers do.

MM

Magic Man: Thank you. I'm very fortunate to have a Can-Am and BRP Sea-doo and Ski-Doo dealer just 5miles from my house! I have to say, they have been very good in helping answer my questions also. The salesman said I was very well informed customer and was happy to help me. He mentioned his techs, know I will likely meet during PDI, etc..., all have BRP Spyder training, which I was happy to hear.

There are a total of three in the province. I just happen to be that close to one of them.

MM: When you say you have to travel, how far are you talking?

Cheers.

Ken, I greatly appreciate your comments and understanding here. Actually over the last 4 weeks I've gotten some private messages about my questions, most have been very supportive PMs and questions and comments, which has been nice. Some have been from new customers just like myself. Most of the PMs and most of the feedback on this forum has been great, friendly, informative and supportive and again I think them, and yourself, Ken for the support to a new customer and new soon-to-be Spyder owner, like me.
I've not been waiting a full day yet (for delivery of my very own Spyder) and I'm already very excited. haha. :D

Thank you again for your kind words.
Cheers from Newfoundland.

Not me, as mine is close (20 minutes) but some US customers have to travel hours and hours to get to a dealer.

I'm in kind of the same position as groundeffect in that I have a Spyder RT ordered and, despite what the dealer keeps saying about it being here by the end of January, I figure I'll be lucky if I see it by the 1st of March. I have enjoyed his (her? don't know) questions and enjoyed the answers he received from members of the board. Some of the questions I knew the answers to and some of them I didn't care about but many of them were questions I was interested in and was glad to read the responses.

But the most heartening thing of all was the terrific response from board members with knowledgable and reasonable answers. Your responses make me glad to be a member of the board and encourage me to ask whatever questions I need answers to. Of course, if groundeffect keeps asking questions, I won't have to. :2thumbs:

Congratulations.

I have purchased spare relays. If need be, I can look up the p/n, mfg. and where I purchased; they're made in China.

What I wanted to caution you on is, if you do not buy the stock relays from BRP, when you replace a relay look at the terminal side at the numbers. They need to go in the same way as the originals. The ones I purchased (Chuan I think) I put in upside down and I got a number of error mesaages scrolling across the cluster panel.

Cotten, I appreciate your comments and support. To be honest, I did a good bit of research and reading first, then asked my questions, mostly because I didn't have full answers to them by reading other posts. I've gotten some PMs like your post also, so I'm only glad to ask the questions I have, and if it benefits others, also, which it seems to be, then that is great.

Thank you again for your comments, and for those who help answer questions by sharing you BRP Spyder knowledge. This, I think is key to helping a forum such as this one, grow in a positive way, imho.
Cheers and ride safe.

Interesting and useful note, wyliec. After you got the error messages did you have to reset anything? Did you just turn the relay around and have it work out ok from there?

Cheers.

I sorta panicked and just put the original one back in and everything was fine. Didn't have to reset anything. Others have bought them and have had no problem. I guess I was the only one that put it in upside down.
