RECALL 2012-4 Spyder RT

Took my RT-S:spyder2: into the dealer today to get the 2012-4 Recall done and now I have the "Check Engine Light" flashing and the "Orange Engine Figure" showing in the display. Called service manager and he said that they will have to check with BRP and find out what is going on. The :spyder2: starts and runs ok, just that the icons are showing the check engine symbols. Have no idea what went wrong. Ran fine before I took it in to get the 2012-4 recall done.:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'm close to 600 miles and was thinking of taking my RT for service before I head out to Cuba, but I'm also afraid they will mess it up. Maybe I'll get it done in Cowtown.

Take it back and make them fix it......:banghead:

2012 Service bulletin

Had mine done today. perfect. Had the 12,000 mile mx done, no valve check, did mine at 6,000 only because it is covered by the maintenence plan I chose. Most noticeable thing on the bike on the trip home was the fact that the cruise works with only a 1 mph variation - it's been over and undershooting 4-5 mph ever since I had the bike. It kept 55 almost perfectly on 2 very hilly roads coming home - I was amazed. They did replace whatever plugs BRP uses, but it ran like a top before and after, so right or wrong I'm giving credit to the throttle service bulletin. :clap:

Picked up My Spyder RT

I got my RT Se5 today and before I took it off the floor I requested the 2012-4 mod. I didn't even get past the session with the dealer showing me the controls when the check engine light came on. They took it back in the shop and hooked it up to the computer and found a brake code that put the bike in limp mode. I can;t believe just sitting parked with your foot on the brake would put the bike in limp mode. They need some serious reprogramming here. If the wheels aren't spinning there should be no reason to shut down to protect the brake system. I can see if your cruising at 60 with your foot on the brake. Then it might make sense to get a warning but not shut down to limp mode. Now I am making a big effort to keep braking to a minimum and not staying on it at a stop light. For now I hope that's the only problem, cause I really enjoyed the ride home.

While I agree with your philosophy about this, remember that all those conditions make for a much larger program, and the more complex the program, the more likelihood for glitches. Be careful what you wish for.

The fault is triggered when the brake pedal shows that it is depressed (the switch is triggered) for a certain amount of time, but insufficient brake pressure is detected. The computer sees that as you putting on the brakes but nothing happening...and throws an error code accordingly. If you want to sit there with your foot on the brake, press it hard enough to actually activate the brakes. There is a chance that your brake switch is adjusted a bit too sensitive. If you have this problem a lot, and don't think you are resting your foot on the pedal, have them take a look at the brake switch adjustment.

That's good info. Thanks NT. When I get back to the dealer I will 3rd degree them on that. It would be nice if it were a simple switch adjustment

The best thing you can do if you get this when riding is to be very aware of your foot position, and make sure to place it beside the pedal and not over it. It takes some adjustment for some riders, but it is the only sure cure.

Just got mine back from the ECM download. Nate, the tech who did the work said he also put in the new fix for the brake pedal problem where it trips codes when you rest your foot on it.
That was new to me- I assume it just came out.
