• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear Shock

Damn! It just ticks me off to see this happening. You know when they outsource something and it doesn't work that the corrected part is a long ways down the road. If they would have used good quality parts bought from long establihed manufactures at the quantity discounts they should be able to get we probably wouldn't have this problem. The company I retired from sent a bunch of our equipment to Mexico. Cheaper production costs until the buyers found out the product was junk. They brought the product line back to the US and then had to rebuild their reputation for good products. Why would you put these Mexican shocks on an ultimate touring machine? More money in the pocket of the CEO?
OK, rant over. If any of you believe your shock is bad have it checked out by your shop (the bounce test is usually enough), then have them order it and bring your bike back when it arrives. They can be ridden with the bad shock, it just isn't near as much fun.

Well I'm 2 for 2 now , Carol's RTS needs a rear shock at 650 miles (We have ridden 300 miles since then with the air cranked all the way up) and my PE RTS 0027 made it 175 miles and it blew. It is way worse than Carols however, it will literally launch the rear wheel off the ground when you shove the rear down and let it go.
This is the "new" me though , I'm not getting on my soapbox like I did last year when both our Spyders had DPS issues and we had to cancel our only vacation for the year... I'm not gonna whine and complain about quality, I'll just have my dealer throw 2 new shocks on Monday so we can go to Americade this Wednesday.... oh thats right, my dealer informs me they are on back order. Well luckily I've installed a new software program on my Mac , it senses when I am about to go off on a forum and start blasting away and it cuts the post short automatically , I'm just ........(Edited by shuturmouth.exe) :cus:

Sorry to here that, but BRP has reasured me that they will corect the rear shock problem shortly we just have to hang in there, my dealer told me that it is in the works. They have taken care of my other issues, so once the new shock arrives every thing should be ok! I still have faith in them and the RTS!:spyder:

Must chime in as well...

My RT is still in the shop, (621 mi), with the failed clutch problem. One of the last rides I took, (two up), on several occasions while going over moderate bumps the rear suspension bottomed out, hard. I checked the air spring pressure to find it was at "0". I pumped it up to the prescribed pressure, in my case 50psi, only to find it at "0" again within 12 hours. Anyone else had air leaking from their air spring? Guess I should consider myself in line for (two) of the new improved rear shocks from BRP. Modifying your suspension with after market stuff is fun to do...But doing it with a new very expensive machine to replace inferior OEM parts is a bummer! and I thought it was just me... Len:dontknow:

I still do too, just a little ironic and frisutrating that 4 different Spyders (at a cost of $ 86000 combined oh btw) have left me high and dry 2 years in a row for my vacation..... :2thumbs:
See I'm keeping my attitude positive!

Rear Shock problem again

I have an RT, basic model,#611 with 3200 miles on it. Took it to the dealers two weeks ago because the rear shock was making noise and the rear end was bouncing. Dealer said that I did'nt have the air pressure set to specks and he lowered it from 44 to 40 lbs. Didn't seem like much but it did handle better. Shock is now not holding air, putting 60 in when riding with passenger and losing about 20 during a six hour ride. Rear end is skipping through the turns and bouncing up and down like a pogo stick. With 40 lbs of pressure in it I can bounce it up and down by hand and makes a loud clunking noise when topping out. I'm not a mechanic but it sure sounds like the shock to me. The service manager tells me that it might not be the shock, that there are " lots of hoses and sensors hooked up to the shock" that can cause this problem. Since everbody has an opinion, what's yours?

That my friend is the job of the shock . No rebound control has very little to do with the airbag to a point... My vote... Shock is dead...

The Service manager is obviously not familiar with the rear shock.
There is nothing "Hooked up" to the shock Absorber, it is a simple Spring Over shock that you will find on any bike, (a cheap one at that), and it is completly seperate from the Airbag system. Your shock is toast.
