This not a very nice thing to happen believe me, coming back home from a memorial group ride to Whangamata NZ yesterday my rear shock broke the eye off the shaft at the top doing 106ks collapsing down springs and lower shock body locking the rear wheel tearing rubber off the centre of the tyre, so looks like one new shock and a new rear tire and the one on it now has only done 10,000ks. This all happened at 8.45pm arrived home on the back of the AA recovery truck 11.45pm so not a very happy Spyder rider. Now because its out of warranty and BRP say this is the first one in the world to be reported to fail they are not really interested.
Things to notice
The main thing that you will notice is the rear of your bike will start to bounce a lot like say your on a water bed would be the best way to describe it, so DON'T muck around if you notice any thing unusual with the rear of your Spyder STOP but don't slam the brakes just pull up slowly so that don't allow the rear to rice to quick as that will allow the shock assembly if it has brock the eye off the top of the shaft to release and go back into the rear wheel. If you have had to stop because you noticed a change in handling have a look at the rear shock and if can still see the nice chrome shinny shaft in the middle of the spring bounce the rear of the bike as hard you can and re-inspect it if its still there but you still not happy take to your dealer and get the to cheek it out, but it you cant see that chrome shaft DONT ride it any more get it trucked.
