Rear shock adjustment Question

I've searched the forum and no one seems to have our experience:

Had the limited spyder (about 1500 miles on it) in to the shop today for them to adjust my front shocks to 5 after reading advice here. I love how it handles now, much steadier on the highway and better in the curves.

Going down the road, I decided to play with the rear shock adjustment since I was riding solo. It shows on the console, but nothing happens when I push the soft or firm buttons. It's pegged at one below hardest. Also, according to the manual, pushing either the up or down button should activate the readout. But our shock display only shows on the screen when we push the up button.

I also tried it again when I got home using the book for a guide. No luck.

I did call the dealer and will take it in tomorrow for a look-over. (We got a good dealer - it's Lamont's place. :thumbup

When we find out what the problem is, I will update this thread in case it happens to someone else.

But in the meantime, if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

That has happened to many RTS Spyders. It needs reflashing with BUDS system. It's stuck in the manual mode. There is a service bulletin 2010-6 I believe.

Huh, weird. When it was on BUDS last week for the first check, nothing showed. It's a 2011.

Thanks! Guess I didn't correlate that one to our experience, but I see it is similar and the mention of having it back on BUDS to reset it.

If the ride height gauge does not turn orange and say manual when you push the button, you have a different issue. Be aware that like the audio system, the first push of the button shows the gauge, then you have to push it again to change the setting. You have to push repeatedly, rather than hold it, to change it more than one step.

Hmmm. The gauge does not turn orange and it doesn't say "manual" either. It also won't show if I push the soft button. It just shows up when pushing the hard side and no amount or configuration of pushing buttons thereafter does a thing. I tried tapping it to adjust and a steady push to adjust but the gauge never moves.

Sounds goofed up alright. It could be a bad switch. The tech is gonna have to chase this one a while. In the meantime, you can manually adjust the rear suspension using the Schrader valve under the seat. Just add or subtract a little air. The middle is about 40 pound of pressure for most people riding alone.

Thanks so much for the tip on adjusting. I'm gonna leave well enough alone and I'm sure husband won't want to mess with it, either. *L* It's 1 bar shy of hardest so if it's accurate despite the problem, it rides just fine. I'm sure I can wait for experimenting once they fix the auto button.

I will say, I am thrilled to death with the front being set to 5. On the 600 mile check up, they made sure the front tire pressure was 20 and the back 30 or 32 (can't recall which) so after setting the shocks more to our liking and need, it handles wonderfully.

I'm back from the dealer. The fix took all of about 40 minutes total. It was the infamous loose wire syndrome. :roflblack:
