• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has any body replaced their rear brake pads? Would like to try and I do have the manual for help, but I am just posting to get some of your opinions on how to do it and if it is a real hard job. I have just a little over 8,000 miles on my RT SE. Any help would be grealty appreaicated. Thanks.

Use the search engine & you'll find what you need. Even Bob was able to do it-lol

Toward the top right hand side of each page on SL, there's a white rectangular box with a small magnifying glass icon next to it, thats the search feature for the forum, or you can click right under there to be taken to the advanced search page. I typed in 'rear brake pad replacement' & it brought up bunches of Threads discussing the topic & I came to find out, that even Bob:clap: was able to do the job himself:thumbup: with no left over parts:roflblack:;) I know that Randy (Arntufun) has done an entire video series on taking the RS Spyder apart, including doing a brake pad replacement, & I believe its pretty similar if not exactly the same for the RT model as well:thumbup: But I haven't seen any videos of anyone doing it on an RT, that I could find, not saying theres not, just I haven't seen it if there is. Teddy & I will actually be doing all three replacements in the next couple of days, so maybe I'll see if I can get him to video it & we can share with the rest of y'all:thumbup:IMG_20120115_170416.jpg

I usually do my own maintenance but I wanted the new oil filters and covers and the quick access tupperware panel so I took mine to the dealer for service. At 11k miles the tech said it needed rear brakes and only charged $85 parts and labor while he was doing the oil change. Something to think about.

This is actually a pretty easy thing to do!
After all; I managed to change out my bike's rear pads... :opps:
Patience and a lack of fear go a long way in this endeavor; The best of luck to you! :2thumbs:

Easy job on an GS/RS especially if you have the manual. Probably the same on an RT, just more tupperware in the way. Seems awfully early to be replacing your pads though but if they are at the wear limit, do not put it off and ruin you rotor. Good Luck

I just changed the rear breaks on my RT last week, it took about an hour to get them off and back together again but plan for 2-3 hours the first time just in case. I bought my new pads from Baha Ron and they seem to be working fine.

Good luck,

Randy

Actually it was pretty easy to get to everything that you needed without offending the Gods of the Tupperware...

You don't need to remove any tupperware but removing the muffler makes it a much easier task and there are only three bolts to remove it. Two on the pipe connection with a dougnut gasket and one hanger bolt. After you drop the muffler it's all pretty straight foreward. BTW, I've done the twice and it's simple. First time, I didn't drop the muffler but found it restrictive for free access to the brake caliper. Dropped the muffler the second time and actually took less time. "GET ER DONE";)
