To recap, my rear rotor was scorching hot after riding, my gas mileage had dropped from around 33 MPG to 28, and my drive belt was squeaking, requiring frequent application of belt dressing.
My attempt to let a dealer fix it was an $82 bust; however, since I took a flat head screwdriver and pried the brake pads away from the rotor may have improved the situation. The rotor is still quite warm but not as hot. My mileage is up the 33 MPG through the last three tanks (as much as 180 miles on the middle tank and better than 160 miles on the bookends).
The only thing I can figure is that the piston(s) had a sticking point and me prying with the screwdriver freed it up. Whatever it is, I'll take it. Thanks to all. ...Don
P.S. The belt still squeaks...!
