There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Rear bearings

Has anyone had to change the rear bearings on their RT yet, and if so, at what mileage? Had first rear tire replaced at 11,000...the bearings "felt" OK, but started squeaking some miles after. Will get them replaced Friday.

Does this mean I am the only one with bearings going out?

I'm sure it doesn't and my response may not be what you are looking for. I haven't had a problem (knock on wood) with my rear wheel bearings. I have an RT-S 2010, and 19,000 miles on it.

However, Lamont has a video entitled changing the rear tire and he briefly discusses the rear bearing issue. I realize this probably doesn't answer your question, but maybe it will. (hopefully it will). Hope the following helps.

Bearing replacement?

I would hope to get two rear tires to one set of rear bearings! Is it normal to change wheels bearings? I can't remember changing a bearing ever on any bike I owned. I aked about it at my dealer and they have only had a couple of bearing replacements and at between 24 & 30,000 miles.

Are you sure it is the bearings.
Bearings don't usually "Squeak". :dontknow:

From experience of bearings on our 2008 SE5, they squeak, pop, rattle, etc. (Changed 3 sets in 43,000 miles). The worst thing is the inability to determine the wear on the bearings when changing the tire. Also for me, that is the first time I have ever had to change rear bearings on any motorcycle I have ever owned, and several with over 50,000 miles, but that's the nature of the beast. These bearings never made a sound until I had the rear tire changed, then they started chirping (squeaking) and one day in a parking lot, after traveling in 106 degrees, they popped really good when making a turn. Will get them replaced tomorrow.

I've replaced the rear tire on my RT twice. The first time, at just over 9,000 miles, the dealer did it so I don't know how the bearings felt. The second time, at 14,500 miles, I did it and the bearings felt okay so I left them alone. Right now it has 17,500 miles and no issues with rear wheel bearings yet. I could see where the heat may have an effect on the rear bearings especially when ambient temperatures are over 110 degrees as it has been where Dudley rides. If air temperatures are 110 and more, what would road surface temperatures be? Probably at least 140 degrees.

As far as rear bearings go, I have replaced rear bearings on most of the motorcycles I've owned except the BMW's. I really don't think there is any fair comparison between a belt/chain rear drive and the shaft drives of Gold Wings, BMW's, and many others.

Covered by Warranty???

If bearings go bad within warrenty or extended warranty, are they covered?
