Was coming back from a few hundred mile ride and happened to be in Indiana where helmets are optional---- worked out well as I heard some rear noise from my Spyder.....
The metal 'clunk' on takeoff from the rear--- pulled over-- rolled her back and forth and could hear the rear bearings 'clicking'. Was 100 miles from home---- made it just fine--- never seemed to overheat or anything.
Pulled the wheel yesterday--bearings all 'feel' fine -- but you just can't tell sometimes until they're under load.
Going to check front sprocket and belt too-- but 99% sure new bearings will fix it up. I replaced them at around 18,000 miles when doing a rear tire change-- now at 35,000 miles-- so it seems every other rear tire change (I get around 8,000 from a rear tire) is a good time to replace bearings.
Going to check with Detroit Ball Bearing on a suitable (hopefully better) substitute for these-- and see about doing a bulk-buy of them if any are interested in doing a 'group buy'..... I'll let you all know what I come up with - but going with the regular 'Chinese made' BRP bearings for now.:sour:
