• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have always carried a Spot Messenger with me when I bike in case I need help and it also lets my family look up on a webpage and know where I am at all times. Do any of you use the device and where do you carry it?
Thanks

I also carry spot and it sits on a mount I made on handlebars but it will also work if left in the trunk

I love my Spot and attach it to the passenger side grab rail with the fabric elastic Velcro strap that came with it.

Hi Guys,
New to the forum and CanAm. :yes:Just wanted to add my .02 to this tread.
The most important thing is to make sure that you carry SPOT on you.
Most guys mount it on the bike. So, if you crash and your 5 feet away from the bike with injuries,
You won’t be able to get to the button to push for help. I have been carrying spot for about 4 years
and would not go anywere with out it.

Oh, P.S. I love my 2011 Spyder RT

Good advice! Same thing applies to your cell phone, for the same reason.

We used the Spot on our trip to Montana last year. It was neat for our kids to actually track our progress. We mounted it on the front hand brake reservoir (ISCI) that we have on the Spyder. While it makes more sense to have it on your person, then you're also less likely to have access to it to send those periodic updates while you're on the road.

Wow! I must have been living under a rock! This is a great device. I get the technology. It took a minute to understand how such a low power device can communicate with a Globalstar Satellite. But then it hit me that when you do very slow baud rates and repeat it, if necessary, then it will work very well with low power and ultra small antennas. Brilliant.

And the annual fees are very reasonable too. I really don't get out in the wild much, but my mind is working overtime for other applications of this cool device and service.

Yep use and love (one concession I had to make with my family before they would approve of my wandering around untethered!!). First I started out using the provided strap with it literally wrapped/strapped to my handlebar...then at Spyderfest ISCI installed a ram mount which is positioned fairly close to center of handlebar...because it is a ram I swivel it to face upright and away I go...with family/friends "spying on my travels":roflblack:...really is a wonderful device and I personally wish everyone carried one...personally know of a couple from Canada that got lost in our area because they took a side road trip, if they had had a Spot they would be alive today because they would have been found.
