• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Re-sale

Better now than a month or two ago, when no one was riding. Mods add desirability, if the buyer likes them, but absolutely no added book value

I must not be seeing what you're seeing, because I don't see a mods section. I think the area has a lot to do with the value as much as timing, because I was willing to sell mine for a grand under nada a few months ago and after six I gave up. The best offer I got was 5k below nada low value which was unacceptable.

I'm glad it didn't sell, but it would have been nice to know I could have in an emergency. Things have really picked lately though. :)

I think accessories add value... things like audio system, CB, GPS but other add-ons can actually detract from value. One man's treasure is another man's junk so chrome tid bits, extra lights, fancy paint, pin striping, graphics, etc. could lower the value.

I just noticed this morning that someone is selling all the chrome items from their 2013 model as they prefer plain black.

Not everyone's tastes are the same.

When it comes to a trade in, mods usually bring 50% to Zero of their original value. Better to de-mod and sell them separately if possible, than to take a shellacing on a trade in.

I speak from experience as I have modded up pretty much every motorcycle I owned--and heard the same song and dance every time I traded them in. I have not modded my current two :spyder2:,s very much this go around.

I always start with KBB- Retail and Trade In value and then NADA Values. Thats just a starting point. Its worth what someone is willing to pay!

trade in value is not adjusted up for the mods - BUT from personal experience with a dealer on a modded machine - boy do they play up them mods and stick to tighter pricing when re-selling the machine with them.

GPS Shade

Where did you buy the GPS shade? BTW, those mods are highly desirable. I also have them on my 2012 RT

When it comes to used Spyders it's really a location and supply and demand kind of thing. In some areas of the country there are larger dealers that sell a lot of units and can afford to discount. In these areas You see alot of Spyders on the road and used for sale so the prices are a little lower. In other areas you hardly see any Spyderds new or used and the dealers may only have one or two on the showroom floor. In these areas lightly used Spyders almost bring what a new Spyder does. Mods add desirability but very rarely add to the overall price above 10-15% at the most.

Resale

I asked the question cause I was trying to get a sense of if you want to buy another bike are you better off selling it on the open market or using it on a trade in. Any thoughts?

trade in

the one thing a trade in is good for is its quicker and used for a down pymt but you get less the if your willing to wait and wait and wait for it to sell a matter of patience vs Dollars

RE: trade in versus sell outright.

The trade-in is easier because you do not have to wait until you get a buyer for it. The down side is that you will get less money. The dealer has to mark up your trade in so they can make a further profit off the resale. Most places will up the trade in price to the new buyer by a minimum of $1000.00.

Selling outright will get you more $'s--but you have the time and hassle of finding a buyer, and hoping that they have their act in order so that you get your money.
