There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RAM Mounts for Spyder RT

What ram mounts work with the RT? I see some with u bolts but they are a bit small considering the size of the handle bars of the RT. I also see two screws which hold the switches on the handle bars. I wonder if there is a Ram mount that can be used with those screws? maybe for a cup holder or ?

Any suggestions be great.

We can mount this basic set up with or with out a hand brake.

for the RT SM you can get the Ram Mount that will work on the Clutch Resovoir with a little modification. The Screw slot on the mount is a bit off and make sure you take one of the existing screws to the store and get Stainless with the length to account for the thickness of the Ram Mount. Ram Mounts come with one or two balls.
Scotty's center mount works also.. However I have both, one for the cup and the other for my GPS.

I went with this - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=27931

and the Kewmetal Generic Handlebar mount - http://www.kewlmetalstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=5_39&products_id=484

It bolted up no problem. put some blue loctite on for safety and replaced the screws with standard stainless hex nuts so I could tighten with a ratchet... got those at Loews or Home Depot.

the mount in the garmin kit is actually a RAM mount. but its bundled with the power fused cables etc.

I like this idea...:2thumbs:

What model of GPS do you have , I have been looking at the Garmin NUVI 550. I am not sure I want to spend the big bucks on the Zumo 660:dontknow:

Buy the wire from Garmin. It is pretty well used on all their models. I then bought the RAM ball, the cradle a from RAM mounts and the kewlmetal attachment listed below. I will post pics once I get everything in and wired up.

I think you might find the Zumo series a little brighter in the direct sunlight, plus more water resistant. I have the NUVI 660 and it's a little dim in direct sun.

:congrats: on your new 2011 RT and Thanks for your comments on the Garmin GPS . Like the advertisement for the Zumo series says"designed for motorcyclists by motorcyclists" or something like that. I also believe you get what you pay for, so the Zumo series might be the way to go for me as I do not currently own a GPS receiver.
Enjoy your new ride:thumbup:

I have a Nuvi 550 on my T-Bird and a 660 in the car. The waterproof 550 is a nice unit for the bucks!

:agree: No audio output jack to hook to my sound or comm system, though, and I cannot hear it on the motorcycles, so I am back to staring at maps, like in my tank bag days. :D

I'm using my Nuvi 255w model which I've had for a couple of years now. Since we use our iPhones or the NavSystem in my wife's car, I figured that it could be best to wire and mount a GPS in my Spyder. I have already run the wire but still don't have the right hex wrench to remove the screws from the handlebar. I have kewlmetal's GPS mount braket http://www.kewlmetalstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=5_39&products_id=484 and installed a RAM mount ball which I can switch over my GPS and iPhone. Once I get everything done I will post the pics in my profile.:2excited:

i have the 550. i guess now they have the 500 if you dont need the topo maps.... nice being waterproof... and now there is one they aimed more at motorcycle I think forget the number that is small and waterproof too.

i skipped the ball mount and mounted the Garmin kit directly to the kewl metal bracket.

but it works fine for me but as some one pointed out no external audio plug on the cradle or unit. I dont need the audio it works fine... been using it on the Harley without audio for a year and half. just need to make sure you get power to it so you can set the brightness high enough during the daytime to see easily.

the water resistant is same rating for both zumo and 550, I think... but not sure with the power cable plugged into back. when I know it will rain I pull the power plug and cap with the rubber plug and run on battery ...
