• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ram mount on upper console question

I've seen several ram mounts mounted on the upper console below the windshield. I was looking for a few details; Did you remove the upper console to install? Any tips for removing the upper console? Pictures would be great. All comments appreciated.

How about mounting the ball on your clutch reservoir (if you have an SM-5), like I did.

It's a pretty clean installation, and no holes need to be drilled.

There are a number of parts that must be removed to separate the two piece console. Not a difficult job, but it does require you to remove the Mirrors. Front Fascia, Windshield/Windshield support bracket and upper air deflectors to get to the retaining screws that hold the two pieces of the console together. Once you remove the console retaining screws, the upper console can be separated and removed to allow you to mount a Ram Ball. I recommend using a small metal plate on the underside of the console when mounting the Ram Ball just to give it added support. I have attached instructions which may aid you somewhat in your task. (Don't be alarmed that it is titled Windshield Motor Removal.)
You may want to consider shelling out $25.00 or so on an electronic version of the Shop Manual (Ebay). It is an invaluable tool to have when doing these types of jobs. Instructions are good and come with pictures.

Happy Wrenching

I didn't have to remove anything but the two screws on the top of the dash. I then pried the two pieces apart, carefully with a flat blade screwdriver, and stuck a wedge between the two parts to give me enough room to work. I would imagine you can get more space to work in if you remove everything Northstar shows, but it would depend on how much room you need.

Have used Ram mounts for years on all of my cycles, and recently on my 2012 RT/SE5. I prefer NOT to drill holes in my dash or elsewhere. The RT has (4) handlebar 10mm Allen screws, which I found perfect for mounting the RAM ball studs. I use one on each side, and then can mount my radar detector, drink cup holder, cameras, etc. I use the BRP GPS base mount on the lower screw positions, and then mount another RAM ball directly to BRP's adapter. Gives me a variety of mounting positions with no damage to the dash or plastic parts. To mount the Ram balls you will need to purchase 10mm x 70mm Allen head cap screws, and a couple of 1" chrome spacers with 3/8" ID holes (available at most Harley Shops), along with a few spacer washers the same size as the head of the screws. This extends the mounts up and prevents them from interfering with the recessed handlebar holes. Makes for a slick setup, and easily removed, if necessary. Will try to get some photos of my setup posted. GUZZI:)

I didn't remove any panels at all.
I drilled a hole, and used a toggle bolt on the screw that runs through the ball mount. Tightened down well and I've had no issues yet.
