• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rain On Visor

Got caught in the rain a couple of times this weekend. On Saturday had trouble seeing through the visor so I thought an application of RainX would be the solution. Actually seemed to make it worse! Anybody using something on the visor that helps the rain run off?

A light coat of lemon pledge seems to work best.
Periodically lifting up the visor helps as well. :f_spider:

Just a slight move of the head to the left and right as in checking over your shoulders works great too!!!!

I've seen warnings to NOT use RainX on plastic windshields. Seems to have some sort of chemicals in it that isn't good for the finish on the windshields...

From Tulsa Enterprises, maker of the Tulsa brand of motorcycle windshields:

'First of all, you should know a bit about your motorcycle's windshield, especially the Gold Wing. Unlike most automobile or truck windshields, it's not made of glass. The original equipment Honda Gold Wing GL1500 and GL1800 windshield is made of hard coated polycarbonate. Most other manufacturers shields are the same. While polycarbonate is great stuff, if you use cleaner containing alcohol or ammonia (including Windex® or Pledge®), you start softening the hard coating , exposing the windshield to greater tendency to scratches or pitting. Windex, Pledge and other alcohol-based household cleaners work great on glass, but aren't meant for synthetics.
WARNING: Do not use Rain-X® on any coated windshield!'

Take a look at this website they have on cleaning tips for motorcycle windshields:

I've had their windshild on my Goldwing since about 2002 & followed their instructions for cleaning. It still looks pretty much like new.

When I got my Calsci windshield for the Beemer, they sent along a sample of thir "custom" solution for cleaning. (BTW, their website has a plethora of good information on a number of topics.) Works like a champ... and here's the secret recipie: 1/2 cup ammonia; 2 cups ispropyl alcohol; 1.5 tsp car wash detergent; 2 cups water. Works great on the helmet visor as well.

I use Rain-X on glass, not plastic. I've coated my shield and windshield with RainCoat, seems to work pretty good. Even though a few people have sworn by Lemon Pledge, I'm still a little leery about using something like that on a windshield. Not sure what the long term affects would be.

First learned about putting furniture polish on windshields while learning to fly GA planes. They are very picky about keeping the windshield as optically clear as possible.

Also, use a soft cloth and use an a up and down wiping motion. Not circular. That way you don't get those whirl scratches.

I was turned onto rain coat by others on the forum and it works like a hot damn, just turn your head to the left and right and the water beads off.

Yes, I saw this and ask not once, not twice but three time AND sent an email asking when I should expect to see my samples in the mail (like they advertise on their site). I even had two other people try the same route for samples...nada, zilch. I gave up on them months ago. Maybe because I'm not a commercial dealer? Maybe someone else could give it a try? I'm done begging...

So promising, but it appears to b e a tease.

pierrelogic, I make Fogtech and Raincoat. Sorry if you felt my offer of samples to industrial safety customers was a tease. If I offered free samples to everyone, that is all I would be doing and go broke in the process.

I don't want any unhappy customers or potential customers. What I offer on my website is a no questions asked guarantee. You buy my products, you don't like them for any reason, you mail it back anytime and I will refund all your money including shipping.

I think that is fair.

Yup, used RainX once, won't do it again. The RainX actually leaves a weird film on the surface of the shield. From now on it's pledge for me. Then you just turn your head side to side and water just flies off! too bad too 'cause RainX works great on glass. Our shields of course, are not!

Can you imagine how much our lids would weigh if they were? We would all have VERY strong neck muscles :roflblack:

I read everyone's post and I must be the only weird one who uses automotive wax. Works great for me and makes it easier to clean the bugs off too.

HMMM... What brand do you use? I t must be something very soft. I would be afraid of scratching my visor with auto wax...
