• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Radio

Turn it UP!

.:yikes:........You blew out the JBL's ....because you had them powered by a 300 WATT AMP.....Mine ( 4 X 5 1/4" ) are powered by the OEM which I doubt has more than 18 watts.....................I have had my RT up to 80 MPH and only needed the radio volume set to 63 % to hear it fine, crisp, clean, clear, with decent BASS ( they are only 5 1/4" after-all )....................Mike

But if you turn it up to 65% you have some Boffo Bass:ohyea:

POSTING LINKS

Yeah, I'm coming to Spyderquest. Looking forward to meeting you there. And my iPod is always in the back. But it only plays C&W. Can your JBL's tolerate that? :D

BTW, HERE is the link for that thread you mentioned about pictures showing installation of speakers in the rear.

.....Thanks for the Link.....but I don't need it .....Gator37 does .......help him out and PM him :roflblack:.............Yes my speakers play CW............I'd love to hear some Patsy Cline....or Vaughn Monroe's version of Ghost Rider's in the Sky at 99 % volume  They could handle that deep baritone nicely.......:thumbup::thumbup:................Mike

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

But if you turn it up to 65% you have some Boffo Bass:ohyea:

:yikes:.....I don't know whether you are pulling my leg or making fun of this or what............But Boffo Bass starts with 16 inch speakers and goes downhill from there 14"- 12" - 10" - 9"- 8"-7"-6"-5"....etc................originally I had 4" JBL's in the rear and they were a definite improvement over the OEM's......Then I swapped those out for JBL 5.25" - GTO 508c's and these are really what works....." Robmorg " was kind enough to post a link to PICS of how that was accomplished ( see HERE )........Mike:thumbup:

Must be lucky.
Never a problem on my 14 RT-S with any speed and most of my highway is 70-80mph
Do you have your auto level set all the way up?

AJ
Any Ideas on getting better radio quality at highway speeds. At above 50 I can only make out a word or two and at 70 it's just noise. Wish there was a headphone jack so could wear ear buds. My old Goldwing had excellent quality at most all speeds although my Harley Electra glide was pretty much like my Spyder.

Hey Rob,
Stop by here, and I'll give you MY I-Pod to take up there, and give those JBLs a run for their money...
Every noxious bit of heavy metal that I could stuff into an 8Gb "Saltine Cracker"!
AC/DC, to ZZ Top...

Check these speakers out, it be great for the person behind you.

Lol....no I blew out the JBL's because they were not loud enough so I added the amp and kept the gain turned down but they just could not take the extra power. Unless they have changed the speakers since I first installed them or, my system was not putting out the volume that yours does my JBL's just did not cut it above 60 mph. At 70, volume at maximum I had to strain to hear the sound above the road/wind noise.

JBL SPEAKERS

Like all brands of speakers....there are Top-of-the-line and Bottom -of-the-line.......JBL's come in different OHM rating's also....I have been told you CAN'T use the 2 OHM speakers......well I was also told you can't put 5 1/4 inch speakers in the rear of the RT....BUT I DID and you can't tell from the outside that I did it.................I have a tendency to do / try things that shouldn't / can't be done, but that's me .........Mike ..............................PS, and I always do it for a LOT less money :yes::yes:

Thanks,

Thank you Stevedfive and PaladinLV for your suggestions concerning my radio question. Did not have the setting at the top, but now I do and will soon check it out on the road and see if that somewhat solves my problem. Eventually when I can afford it will probably go to the Bluetooth and head set suggestion. Have ridden two wheelers almost 60 years but am relatively new to Spyders. And I love it. Thanks again for your help.

Did you turn on the automatic volume control setting in the preferences screen?

This brings up a question that I've been meaning to ask......

There are three settings on the Auto Volume: Low, medium, and high. I haven't been able to find an explanation in the manual. Is it referring to low, medium, and high speed? Or is it referring to volume? I haven't been able to get a handle on this setting.

I had a similar feature on my Goldwing, but it let you set what speed the bike should be going when the auto volume kicks in.

Thanks for the help

Pam

That auto adjusts the volume by increasing the volume to low, medium, or high, according to speed. I have mine set at high. Feel free to PM me and I will give you my number.

What type and year Spyder do you have? I have an entertainment harness off of my 2012 RT that I'm looking to sell. Then you could get a headset and then have the music play into your helmet. The entertainment harness has a plug for the driver and the passenger.
Entertainment harness doesn't do anything for you unless you also have the CB. The CB is not just a CB. It is the intercom unit and headset interface to the audio system.

I could be wrong but I don't think it's three steps in volume but rather a ratio of volume increase. High setting increases the volume gradually at all speeds but at a higher rate than medium and low do.
