• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Radar Detector

I am pretty sure the question was about the quality of the detector and not looking for anyones opinion on the use of a detector, lol... Humans... funny animals, lol.

Im also using an Escort on my RS. I'll post a photo of the mount when I get home from work this morning. I too have been running with detectors on my bikes since 1978 when I installed a Fuzzbuster on my 76 Goldwing. I never leave home without one and actually I carry a spare just in case.

As promised, here's how mine is mounted. I realize the windshield is completely different on the new ST but this might give you an idea.

Thanks for photo, I see your using a ball type mount but what is the 9500ix laying on or attached to?

My son's a cop here in New York State--and he tells me that by the time the detector goes off, he's already got me! the only time if might help is if you're traveling in a group of cars/trucks on the interstate. I have found a CB radio is much more effective for locating the cops than a detector. Just my opinion.

Hardly anyone seems to use the cb out here any more.

Your 100 percent right. However, why waste money that could be spent on different mod for the bike. :cus: happens. We speed, we don't get caught most of the time, eventually we do, not a big deal. Take what we get for what we do. It's all part of the game. Humans are funny, we all occasionally want to get away with what me may deserve....lol. But you are right. If you want to have one, then have one. The best detect on the market is an Escort Passport 9500ix. Be ready to shell out $500 and extra for the red light cam subscription. Also, detectors are like lap top computers. Replace it every two years to stay up with the changes in different band ranges and they cant take the beating from vibration and exposure to elements.

SCHEDULED ENTRAPMENT

If you want to avoid one; Do NOT drive through Virginia with a NY tag. If you do decide to tempt fate, keep it right on the speed limit as I got a ticket in SW Virginia for 7mph over. They write tickets to NY drivers because NY has not reciprocation agreements with any other state so it will not add points to your license. Therefore most NY drivers pay the small fine, or as I like to call it: The Virginia-Out-Of-State-Highway-Use Tax. They have also upped the speed limit 70 on some parts of I-81, but this is just another trick. In some sections, for no reason at all, the speed limit will drop to 60 MPH. I like to call those "sleeper Zones", because if you aren't paying attention you will get ticketed. I have taken two trips through VA in the last 2 years, and the Troopers have gotten so bad I am thinking about re-routing through western NY, OH, and Kentucky to get to TN this year.

it has an actual name: "SCHEDULED ENTRAPMENT"... my former bro-in-law was a highway designer... every road in the world designed since the 1950's is built with a particular maximum speed limit in mind, the states know the speed capabilities of their roadways, and they'll set up 'traps' like you said, expressly for 'revenue enhancement' purposes... it has NOTHING TO DO WITH SAFETY... they'll also set up a series of traffic lights to turn green every time you approach one if you maintain, let's say: 50 mph... then what they'll do is set the speed limit at 40 mph, knowing that people will learn that at 40 mph, they will hit every red light, every time... and they know you will also learn that by going over the 40 mph by another 10 mph (50 mph) that you will sail through every light without stopping... BANG, they'll have their revenue-enhancers, aka: police, waiting with a BIG FAT NEW BOOK OF BLANK TICKETS waiting for you... it's all about MONEY folks, nothing else matters... and watch if it doesn't get worse with all these idiotic cut-backs that have no basis in facts...
keep the rubber side down...

Osros, sorry for taking so long to reply. I am using the stock two suction cup mount on my windshield, but I don't recommend this mounting. I will be switching to a Velcro install on my dash top, so vibration will be much less. You can buy a weatherproof enclosure for the detector, but it is sort of a pain. And folks, I have the 9500ix and the Bel Sti Driver, which I have had for five or six years, and both do an excellent job of advance warning. I have driven hundreds of thousands of miles with radar detectors, and find them invaluable for situational awareness and ticket avoidance, especially when paired with Escort Live.

Thanks yeah I'm looking at a mount solution for the 9500ix and I may do Velcro to start. Got a new 3 week old ST and I'm not into drilling holes just yet.

I still need to get the 12v plug installed just to have, but will look into direct wiring for the detector.
