• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Radar detector installation

I am going to install the escort passport Qi45 radar detector on my 2010 RTS. This unit has a separate antenna/receiver and display piece to allow for a more discrete installation. I am looking for a place to attach the antenna/receiver in the front of my spyder. I was thinking of cutting and shaping an opening in front of one of the headlight assemblies. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas about that? I need to check on the space available, but am also concerned about keeping water out.

My buddy mounted his whole unit in the frunk and it works great. Hopefully he'll chime in here.

By the way,I used to ride a ZL 600 efi, I burned it down trying to keep up with all my friends that ride 800's, so I now ride an 2007 F8. Loved the ZL 600 though, fun sled and deceptively fast for a 600.

Yeah is was. I crashed that one and ride a 02 ZR 800efi c/c now. The 800 is a little nose heavy compared to the 600, that one could be whipped around like a rag doll.

He is on vacation right now, he'll take some pics I am sure. He used a RAM mount and a flat piece of plastic mounted it just to the left of the 12v outlet.

I was riding around Antioch/Lake Villa last weekend, we should get together and ride sometime, do you ride much up in Wisconsin?

If there are any policemen on SpyderLovers, they may want to add to this. A radar detector is a great conversation piece and will sometimes maybe keep you from getting a ticket, but here is bad news. For the most part, if the law is sitting on the side of the road with the radar on, it's to slow people down (cause the detectors to warn people). You may think that is keeping you from getting a ticket, and it might, BUT most law officers will not turn the radar on until they see you speeding, lock on you, and when your detector warns you, your ticket is soon to be issued. How do I know this practice? Guess.
But again, it's a cool bragging right.

I agree a detector is a tool to help you not get a ticket. As for the radar locking on you, then the detector goes off, while this may be true, I usually see/hear you radar the guys way ahead of me, thus warning me to slow a bit.

I can attest I have gotten tickets while running radar, I have also avoided many more!

The post was not meant to be a debate on radar detectors, just needed some thoughts on how to install my useless machine that goes "bing" and has fancy red lights so I can show it off at the drive-in.;)

Well shoot... if that's what it's about just velcro it to the top of the dash and brag away... :D :joke:
...unless you're worried about somebody spilling a beer on it...
