Race Airflow System or Not?

So I have been reading a lot on the forums about changing the air filter and cold air intakes, the works. I have also read and found the race airflow system from evoluzione. Seems to be a good replacement to the factory airbox, but as I have read in the threads once installed it is very loud at idle. I seen some smart and savvy folks here made their own custom air box to dampen the sound. I may not be as savvy to make my own box, so is there an aftermarket solution, possibly with a cold air intake?

My question to the collective here is for those who have installed the race airflow system from evoluzione how is it? How loud is it? Does it do what it is advertised, more horsepower, better throttle response, cooler running, etc..

First, the evoluzion air system, combined with the Juice Box, does make a noticeable difference in power.

However, I removed mine because of the noise. And... the noise is not at idle... it's at traveling speed. In my case, I perceived it as a head-pounding noise much worse than any exhaust you could put on. The exhaust exits behind you... the air box, under you.

There is no way I would take an even short, at-speed trip with the box. Even ear plugs don't tone it down.

But, now that you're aware of it, make your choices.

Here's my review:

I got about the same performance with this... but no noise:

Firefly has the race air kit and he built his own box for it. It works well...maybe we can get him to post pics...:D

ATA is correct---- it's LOUD--- whenever you're on the gas really hard you can just hear that Rotax a-screamin' through the throttle bodies.

I built my own airbox using DEI heat shield-- and the noise is just fine now--- and she still seems to run great since adding the cold air intakes.

I would really like to see someone create a nice, smaller airbox to work with the race intake setup---I've got pics of mine out here somewhere---- guess I could send them to Ken and see if he has any interest in making that an extra add-on for his kit---- but I'm kind of doubting he'll go for it.

You can also line the underside of your tupperware with heat/noise shield and that will help.

Part of my reason was for the power - part was to get rid of that nasty 'oil' box that is supposed to be for AIR. Makes it easier to work inside the Spyder with all that junk gone.

I could not hear my Hindle when I first put this unit on---- but since I did the custom airbox----I sound just like any other Spyder with a Hindle.

I run the cold air intake and don't feel its loud at all. In fact I don't hear anything from it over the Hindle exhaust. With the cold air race system, JB box and hindle my plug reading is perfect. Bike runs like a dream and no rpm glitches or stumbles, plus the box make everything easier too see and work. It also allows for better cooling to the front cylinder by not trapping in all the heat.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing.

We are talking about the Race Airflow System by Evoluzione. $250.00, another $90 if you want the fuel pressure modifier. To install this system the entire stock airbox is removed from the bike for good.

My cold air intakes are custom and not required to run the Race Airflow System.

Got the race airflow for over 30 k on the bike; performance: +1; no more oil like in the original air box: +1; no more air filters: +1; easy access inside the bike: +1; noise: get use to it...

Same here race Air flow system, I agree with everything above except I don't hear the noise :2thumbs: Actually I'm gonna re-think this, I put the system on my wifes bike at one mile on the odo. I did ride my dad's in florida which was probably quieter. Mine reminds me of a quad when I'm on it sound wise, but that sound doesn't bother me. Thats probably the sound everyone is hearing

I just ordered the race air flow to go with my juicebox and hindle. If it is too loud I guess I will have to get an Ipod set-up and crank up the AC/DC:ohyea:Life is good!

I like the sound reminds me of the old days with 4-barrel carbs:thumbup:

i have race air flow and leo vince, no baffle and good size stereo system but at full or near full throttle, i can not hear :cus::D
i had the race air flow for 4 month now and eventually you get used to the noise. i actually like the way it makes spyder sounds.

race air flow and anti sway bar are my favorite upgrade on spyder along with HID all around.
