There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I am building a trailer for my 2012 RT SE and is almost done so I started the search for the trailer hitch for the :spyder2:.. called the dealer i purchased it from and was quoted 514.00. Wow, I thought, that is double what I paid for the hitch on my truck and less than half the steel..I called back today to make sure it included the wire harness and installation. Wire harness yes, installation NO..That would be another 250.00. So just to pull the da$$ trailer will cost me another 764.00? Are You Kidding ME...has anyone purchased the one on ebay for 299.00? It can't be that hard to install..Sorry I just don't like being taken. OK im done venting but still not a happy camper. Has everyone had to pay this rediculase price for the hitch? Any options?

Frame Mount Trailer Hitch

I too am interested in a Frame mounted trailer hitch.

Where do the connect (I have not inspected this detail yet) ?

Have a metal fabricator build you one... I am sure for much less money.

:agree:

Welcome Spyder owner

I did pay $500 for my hitch, i traded in a scooter for the RT622 trailer. The pigtail and the installation was included in the trade. Parts and accessories from BRP are not cheap. I want to get floorboards for my RT, but I'm not paying $900 for them. Lamonster has a lot of mods and mounts for the spyder, but the hitch and pigtail you'll have to bite on it. Welcome to the world of the RT.

it's not just the parts and accessories some of the shop rates are highway robbery. think the shops out by me charge 150/hour to work on spyders and seadoos. hell it costs 180-250 for an oil change at the closest shop to me. i do my own for around 40-50 bucks and it takes all of 15-20 minutes. /vent

From what I've seen in here; installation is pretty darn easy.
Lamont or Scotty could certainly walk you through the process... And I'd be surprised if there isn't a video available in here somewhere!
The Best of Luck to you, and we want to see your trailer! :2thumbs:

The BRP hitch does include the wiring harness. You may have to change the plug on the trailer to match. That is easier with the new harnesses with the square-4 connector. The BRP hitch has a couple of real advantages over its aftermarket brethren. First, it has a patented shock absorbing mechanism built in. This saves wear and tear on the swingarm and swingarm bearings, and prevents stress related failures of the hitch. Second, it can be quickly removed or put on without loosening the axle and adjusting the belt. Finally, the plug-n-play BRP harness is isolated and powered separately, meaning that a trailer electrical problem shouldn't put your Spyder out of commission.

The installation isn't that bad if you are handy with tools and can read the directions. The hitch comes with step-by-step instructions. $250 for installation is pretty steep. I have never taken more than an hour to do the complete installation. I will guarantee you that installing an aftrermarket hitch, tapping into the wiring and rigging a connection, then adjusting the belt will take longer. I'd go with the BRP hitch then do the installation yourself or solicit the help of a handy friend.

And this has been told here many times before.....I built mine for $ 25.00 and that included the wiring for my 08 GS.............it can be done ......it has been done......It's not rocket science .....as seen on the BLUEKNIGHT911 spyder video done by "arntufun" at s.i.t.a.,..... it's currently on the gen forum now........

Labor rate at our dealer is $90.00 hour. Not bad considering what my company charges, but then, we have to cover trucks, insurance, gas, payroll, benifits. Get my drift?

Spyderpops just installed the 299.00 hitch for me yesterday, it is great and the install was fairly straight forward on my 2012 limited. The only thing the instructions dont mention is that you need a wrench (forgot what you call it) that measures foot pounds when reinstalling the axle and something else to do with the tension for the belt, also you have to drop the rear shock or remove the muffler to get to the right side bolt. It took about an hour to do it. If you PM spyderpops he can probably explain better. The hitch is very well made and fits like a glove.

The high cost of parts and accessories and the high cost of labor to maintain our :spyder2:,s has come up many times. My dealer charged $110.00 per hour the last time I brought :ani29: in.

I don't anticipate the costs on any of this going down in the near future. I guess its just the nature of the beast. :roflblack:
