• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Quick question on backrests

Hi ...I just purchased a 2014 Spyder RT Limited that came with a Spyder Drivers backrest. I must have short arms and legs as the backrest sits too far back for me. In addition the space for my wife is a little tight in the passenger seat. I was thinking of a Utopia Backrest but need to know if it can be adjusted to move forward on the seat allowing a closer fit for me and more room for my wife. Does anyone know the distance between the middle of the passenger backrest to the Utopia backrest at the most forward position (if adjustable)..... this will not only help me but.... as they say... happy wife, happy life :)

BACKRESTS - 101

:welcome: ..... I have built quite a few metal support brackets assemblies for the Utopia Backrest ( Pad ) ... the 2014 and newer RT's..... they are more adjustable than any other brand sold that I have seen..... However there are limits ...... as far as the Passenger goes the Utopia gives the passenger the most room. Look at your seat, that plug between you and the passenger is where they all go into...... the upright piece of the Utopia will be in the center of the hole .... the pad will be towards the front side ( driver )..... The Utopia bracket can have a spacer ( get longer bolts to do this ) put between the top flat bars that bolt together ....but honestly 5/8th inch would be the maxium I would go....... If that won't get you to the handlebars - you will have to get Heli-bars , or Tri-axe adjustable, or some have done the older " dog-bone style " added to the stock handle-bars ......... Mike

I am going to need about 13 - 14" from middle of the passenger backrest to the back of the drivers backrest. Currently with the Spyder backrest I have 11"

Does your BRP backrest adjust? If not: it can easily be converted to do so!
(BRP sells a replacement bracket for them: see your dealer! Ask for Part # 219400682)

Bob what EXACTLY are the adjustments the the BRP backrest is able to do ..... I believe the OP needs the entire unit to move forward ....... not just TILT !!!! ............. Mike

If you adjust the rake forward, the pad will simply end up sitting in a more forward location...

(I've got one, and have played with the adjustment extensively!)

Pretty sure he has the comfort seat which is 1 1/2 - 2" further back to the butt rest than the standard seat. When the Princess rides with me we just pop it out and when solo pop it back in. I am sure he can trade someone on here for the standard seat. BRP comfort seats are more in demand but no one wanted to spend the extra $6-700.00 for them. I love mine.

Don't forget the passenger backrest can be reformed by redoing the innards.
Or I know at least one seat manufacturer (corbin) makes a set back passenger system.

I bet Motorcycle Dave could help.

 About the issue of space... nojoke

When the redesigned RT makes its inevitable appearance: it REALLY needs to have expanded the amount of space available for the rider and passenger...

After all: none of us are getting any smaller! :D

Another Alternative

As Bob Denman so delicately pointed out, "we ain't getting any thinner". Bob's solution for us was for us to buy the ULTIMATE passenger backrest @Spyderfest 2016. Because of "room Issues" we opted to keep the stock seat, with no backrest. We've recycled our Butt Buffer gel pads from our H-D riding days('96-'06) and added a Misty Mountain full sheepskin seat cover, also purchased @Spyderfest 2016.
The subtle message here is to bring plenty of money to Spyderfest, or prepare to max out a credit card. My wife says that I'm banned from the Vendor Village this year.

:D Hi MIke,
I know ALL of the "back ways" to get you into the Vendor Village... :yikes:
Here's what you do:
Schedule a dinner with a whole bunch of friends at a really great barbecue place. It doesn't matter which one because they're ALL fantastic...
Before you order: excuse yourself for a quick trip to the Men's room...
Hit the door running, and get thee to the Village!

When the Police show up looking for you: fake a brain aneurysm, and let them escort you back to your Bride...

If you're really lucky: you can perform this stunt TWICE!!
