• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Questions for you Tennessee Residents

We are in the process of looking for a place that is retirement friendly and found Tennessee listed near the top. The one thing I haven't been able to find online is fees related to auto/truck, camper/RV and motorcycle registration costs. What sort of annual fees do you have to pay? How much additional cost for vanity plates?

And, what the heck are wheel taxes?

We're looking now at retiring to Eastern Tn and I can tell you it's one of the most tax friendly places to live, especially for military retirees...The cost of living is great, roads are terrific, people are friendly, medical facilities are exceptional ...We're probably gonna move to the Johnson City/Bristol/Greenville this summer now that our house has sold.

You should be able to fins all of that online. If not google Tennessee aoutomobile tags and taxes that should get you close if nothing else it will get you a number you can call. I know here in alabama a normal tag is $25 a vanity tag is $50 and then you pay your vehicle taxes. I think my 2010 RS was around $210 total tag and taxes this year.

Here's what I am paying as a TN resident:

2012 RT Ltd - annual renewal $ 53.00 (includes 35 for personalized plate)

2011 Ford F150 4x4 - annual renewal $24. plus $10. annual polution control inspection required by County

2012 (RV) Toy Hauler trailer - annual renewal $12.50. Trailers used mostly inside the state do not require registration or tag!

When you purchase a vehicle the sales tax is about 7% of the price, but there is no ongoing annual property tax on vehicles like some states require.

The wheel tax is local and only required by a few TN Counties, probably not much more than $10 per vehicle.

Send me a pm if I can help with any of your Tenn questions. I moved to Tennessee in 2001 and love it!

Yeah, like NC. We pay a tax when we buy a vehicle then every year after when we renew the registration. :banghead:

I live in Washington county, Johnson City and Jonesbourgh areas. Actually I am on the Greeneville side of Jonesbourgh. NO wheel tax, registration is around 24.oo for tags per year, Tax is paid one time at purschase. NO state taxes other than sales tax that differs slightly from county to county. Love it here, also some of the best riding roads you'll find.
