Seems to happen every time someone makes a dissing post of some kind. Right off the bat stones start getting thrown and tempers flare...usually for no good reason...and then members start dissing members . Come on people , if someone don't like your ride.....did they pay for it ? If they didn't then who cares? Why get all bent out of shape over something so trivial ?? Maybe make a comment but wars aren't necessary.

You ride down the road on your bike and wave at other riders , some wave back and some don't.....get over it. You aren't ever going to please everyone . I ride my spyder because I like it , others ride Goldwings or Harleys....their choice. If you sit back and think about it , the person that is giving you the most grief is the rider that parks their bike in front of a bar , they aren't riders..You run into a group of riders on the road and you may get one or two jerks but most are respectful and curious. I ended up staying at a motel that was filled with Harley riders , wondered what would happen and was really surprised , very friendly and curious. My spyder wasn't their cup of tea but at least I was riding and that's all they cared about.A rider is a rider ...and for the most part respects what other people ride. Granted there are hardcore but they are the exception rather than the norm.

I've been riding motorcycles for 40 years and just purchsed my first Spyder (a lava bronze RT). I was ready for something different and safer for myself and my wife, so I reluctantly sold my '06 Gold Wing. Throughout my years of motorcycling I've never failed to acknowledge or enjoy the company of my fellow riders, whatever they were riding. Harleys, Hondas, BMWs, trikes, it doesn't matter to me. I love them all. Motorcycling is supposed to be a sport for individualists, yet some insist on drawing lines based on things as subjective as what we ride. At this point in my life I don't feel the need to meet anyone's criteria to be defined as a motorcyclist. With numerous solo coast to coast rides under my belt, years as the president of a large HRCA chapter, and experience as a motorcycle journalist I feel I'm as qualified as anyone to offer an informed opinion. I'm coming to think that riders who are vehmently opposed to Spyders have too much ego tied up in what they ride, or they simply fear advancing age, and reject anything that makes them feel their youth is slipping away. Certainly everyone is entitled to ride what they like, but the way some riders go far out of their way to vilify Spyders and their riders tells me something else is in play here. More to the subject at hand, I now ride a Spyder because I love the design and welcome the added safety. I've been demo ridng them for a few seasons, and I finally decided to pull the trigger. Is it the same experience as my GL1800? Absolutely not. Is it a blast in its own right? Absolutely! Are some Spyder riders physically challenged? Of course. So what? Are Spyder riders all old and decrepit? Of course not, but the average age of the rider on ANY modern touring bike is 50 and up. My suggestion to those who feel the need to post negative comments about Spyders, Harleys, or anything else is to keep your opinion to youself. Your negativity adds nothing to the discussion, and its not your finest moment. Anyway, I'll be riding my Spyder from NYC to Vegas this October, and I hope to see some of you on the road.

No I was NOT trying to stir the POT. lol, I was honestly wondering and wanted to ask the question. Like I said I completely understand the open road. I also am in an MC and one of my brothers is handicapped due to a drunk BI%#H ran him over while he was on a 2 wheeler. He now rides a trike well it’s a 2 wheeler with a trike kit so it actually has 3 wheels in the back. He has a steel rod from his hip to his foot and a rod from his femur to shin "no right knee" he is on dialysis 3 days a week "no liver, or kidney function" and oxygen 24hrs a day. He bought his ultra classic and then put the trike kit on with the hopes of some day being back on 2 wheels. He has now "as of last I checked" 196K on his odometer within 6 years. Hell I ride, but not that much I can’t even put 196K on a cage in 6 years. So I get it... anyway I will always wave at you all and be kind "that’s just me" even you all on 3 wheels it really is US against the cages. So keep the wind in your hair and the rubber on the road.
Oh and I am not one of the members you all were wondering my name is JD. Took a while to read thru all of the posts and I have to ask, WHY do Spyder owners jump to conclusions so much and criticize others so fast. All I saw was someone asking a perfectly ligitimate set of questions and right away the Spyder attitude showed up. Yep, as many of you know, I have a Spyder and Sportbike and quad, so I ride whatever I feel like at any time. How about shelving the attitudes and make this a site people would like to come to and ask questions without feeling like they have to defend themselves. Just my 02 cents and its because of this that my post count has not reached 10000 yet.

Sorta wanted to add my 2 cents worth to this question, of WHY? I am 68 haden't been on 2 since 74 or 75. Got to ryde with my niece on her Goldwing. Wanted to get that wind in the hair feeling for myself. Wanted to "DRIVE" myself. First ad I saw in a local newspaper I went to look and BOUGHT a 09 RS. The "sportster" roadster. Then in 10 Got the RT-S the Touring roadster. The REASON??? for these bikes I don't fall off at the light!!! or on a hill, don't worry about the kick stand sinking in, or the bike falling into another bike if the kickstand DOESN"T hold it up. Besides all that IT'S THE MOST FUN I HAVE HAD EVER!!!!! :yes:

Great to have you! My BIL rides a Harley. Rode with him from northern CA to San Diego. He's a great guy (Navy) and rides that HD like he stole it! Just the way I like to travel!

He loves what he rides, I love what I ride. It doesn't get any better than that!

Love riding with anyone riding anything that they can, motorcycle, trike, Spypder, Jeep, whatever. Had a buddy who lost his eye sight in his dominate eye. Vision just too bad to ride a motorcycle anymore (had a nice BMW) so he bought a Jeep. He now trails behind us with the top off the jeep and enjoys the outdoors thataway. He is a great sport. Drags a trailer behind him on long trips just in case someone breaks down. Its the company that is with you on the rides that counts.

Hopefully it was because the nasty ones were ashamed to reply after some of the comments they originally made. Makes me wonder who the real " bad " guys are here. One thing I have noticed about this thread is the number of new members who have responded. We may not like the OP but for me it is great to see the passion we all have for our Spyders even those who have only owned them a short time. My Spyder gets me out in the wind riding alongside my husband on his Harleys or Honda.

Right on.. included me as a new rider, healthy, middle aged, guy who rode 2 wheelers for 25 years, who LOVES the fun factor. (had to chime in)

So now it's my two cents. If one has to ask why, then they are not going to get it.
PS, I think the reason for some not-so-nice responses to Harley Rider is a knee-jerk reaction. In my almost 40 years of riding, every brand has returned the wave without fail except the Harley rider. Some will wave back, but of all the ones I wave at, less than half reply.

Something I've noticed lately is that the state and or city make a difference. In MO. it's better than 50% if there is only one rider. I'm in Illinois this weekend and its been at least 75%. Either way, I usually wave whether I get one back or not. There have been times that I was distracted and didn't see their wave until it was too late to reply.

I can now stop and smell the wild flowers on the side of the road, on two wheels you watch everything to keep upright. My wife enjoyed scenery, did you see that, no I was watching the road. Riding two up she would make a odd move I'd have to tell her to knock it off or you'll dump us. She would see a shop on the other side of the road, ever try to turn a cruiser around on small road with gravel sides :yikes: Now with the Spyder I can enjoy my surroundings, now she can jump around all she wants, sometimes I have to make sure she still back there, no problem to quick turn around and stop at that shop. I still like my 6 two wheelers but I find myself taking the Spyder more and more. It's a relaxing enjoyable ride.

Riding the Spyder is as calm as a light breeze and wild as a hurricane. :thumbup:
